To the reader of this resume; you will undoubtedly note that it is not a typical chronology of a career ladder. I make no apology for this; on the contrary, it has given me a broad and diverse background. I was privileged to serve my country in the armed forces while at the same time I was able to serve in the legislature and own a purebred livestock ranch. I searched for challenging employment to fill gaps and often had several opportunities at once.
. Happy Heart Ranch (1963 to present)
Self-employed, owner/manager. ($75,000) 60 hrs/wk.
Specialty ranching enterprise, centered on equine breeding. Developed one of the premier programs in the world winning many national and world championships. Responsible for product promotion and marketing. Among equine enthusiasts, our brand is now distinctively recognized for quality throughout North and South America, Europe, and Hawaii.
Constructed the Northwest’s largest private indoor arena, for equine training, and promoting events such as national reining, cutting, gymkhana, rodeo, team penning and breed shows with facilities for 300 head of cattle and horses. Led the industry in booking activities and sponsored events. Relocated one and a half miles of utility lines and erected circular pivots to reduce irrigation labor and conserve water. Planned and harvested associated feed production to support the livestock program.

Natural resource protection, educational programs, worked in unison with NRCS to
manage Federal matching grant program of funds provided through the annual Federal Farm bill. I was the sole signatory for millions of dollars of these appropriations for
natural resource sustainability, equipment, technical advice, and agricultural programs.
