As a lieutenant with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and as a midlevel manager it was my responsibility to ensure the safety of all staff and inmates within the institution. I maintained the daily roster of staff and assigned duties as needed. I ensured policies and laws were followed by both staff and inmates. I was responsible for reviewing institutional policies to ensure they met the standards of the changing laws and provided written recommendations. I would provide yearly evaluations for staff and recommend awards for the staff who have gone above and beyond their normal duties. I was also part of the staff disciplinary process. My responsibilities also included training both new and experienced staff. I was responsible for conducting quarterly and monthly audits of institutional policies to ensure policies were followed and prepared recommendations to the administration for changes. I utilized skills learned through experience for conflict resolution and gave recommendations to those affected by the conflict. I conducted interviews for potential candidates and was familiar with the hiring process. I maintained certification in the EEO process and other federal laws pertaining to hiring.

As a Special Investigative Tech, I was responsible for conducting criminal and noncriminal investigations on staff and inmates. Attention to detail is a skill I have developed enabling me to achieve my goal during an investigation. I have taken many training classes in interview and interrogation. I have completed the Reid’s Interview and Interrogation class. I would provide documentation and reports to the U.S. District Court in Northern West Virginia. My duties also included maintaining the caseload databases and uploading any new cases. It was my responsibility to assign these cases to investigative staff. I was responsible for maintaining the yearly budget for our department and provided requests for the following years budget. I was also responsible for providing investigative briefings and after-action briefings to the administration (written and verbal). I also conducted staff briefings during critical events and conducted training classes on new policies and procedures.
