PROFILE

A senior level Design Engineer with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and over 27 years of engineering experience. Relevant experience includes the design and engineering crossmembers for the FCA DT Truck, the aluminum sheet metal hood assembly for Tesla Model S, as well as a variety of mechanisms from adjustable pedals, to sunroofs, and movable roof concepts resulting in 18 patents. Also have the ability to design fully parametric CAD Models in either Catia V5 or NX. Currently have 9000 hrs. of Catia V5/V6 and 3000 hours NX experience.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

LORDSTOWN MOTORS, Farmington Hills. MI Design and Release Engineer - BIW Oct 2023 to Present

● DRE for Endurance box, As the 5th or 6th engineer for the truck box dealt with a lot of unresolved fundamental BIW issues; some of which:were incomplete GD&T, datum hole jumping, no measurement points on drawings, net pads on drawing did not match net pads for weld cell or check fixture outer asm, sub standard clearances between parts, unrealistic gaps between tail lamps and lamp housings, Lamp can weld fixtures incapable of repeatability, aluminum sheet metal components with no die compensation etc etc

● Worked closely with SQE, suppliers and LMC Body Shop and GA groups to functionally build and assemble an adequate truck box

● Did several storage concepts for MICAH platform, redesigned the current SMC box inner tub and box outer completely for VA/VE GENERAL MOTORS/Aerotek., Warren MI Design and Release Engineer - BIW Aug 2021 to July 2022

● DRE for roof systems, responsible front and rear roof headers, roof bows, sunroof reinforcement, and 3 roof variants.

● Resolved multiple issues not covered by GM Best Practices, Manufacturing Requirements, and Section Requirements for the parts assigned to me. Also resolved stamping issues that passed internal analysis but not with the supplier on high tensile strength parts.

● Learned GM TeamCenter, ECR’s, UPC/FNA Guidelines, ICD’s, PCP Portal and many other of GM’s processes. CHRYSLER/Tata Tech., Auburn Hills, MI Design Engineer - BIW -Truck Group Sept 2012 to Aug 2021

● Designed and developed and received a US patent #11,161,554 for a new series of crossmembers for the FCA’s new truck box that are 39% lighter weight using a DP780 mat’l (see 1st picture below) Designed Crossmembers to be gloved together for increased container packaging tripling the amount of the previous generation could ship (see second picture below), developed the box fasteners, and retention system and locator pins for DT, 1 st auto decking and auto secure cell for the DT (this was a 1st for Chrysler) Worked in SHAP extensively for launch of DT, this retention system was used on Gladiator. (see 3rd picture below)

● Developed the design concept that was implemented on the Gladiator box, this design put the box front Xmbr, Front panel and floor in a common shear plane which creates a much stronger box. (see 4th picture at very bottom)

● Design and Release Engineer on previous gen trucks, for all truck box floors, cross members and box front and inner panels. Performed all changes pertaining to these parts using Catia V5. and NX. Supported launch at the US and Mexican plants, of new heavy duty and light duty truck box Xmbrs in Saltillo MX and Warren MI. on the previous Gen trucks and current 1500 trucks.

● Implemented vehicle cost and weight saves 6’4 and 5’7 box floors, and cross members. Performed CAD work for my group to add lights to all truck boxes for 2015, also did initial studies and various other CAD work projects. Engineered 1st fabric wheel liners for Grand Wagoneer resolving numerous issues in time for Job 1. TESLA MOTORS, Hawthorn, Palo Alto, and Fremont, CA Design Engineer - Hood Dec 2010 to Sept 201 2

● Designed, developed, and engineered the aluminum hood assembly for the Tesla Model S using Catia V5. The hood assembly model is fully parametric and will update with new surface releases from the studio.

● Designed initial hood and hood 4 bar hinge that passed Euro Reg.78 for HIC < 1700. (CAE)

● The design and package of all hood components and hardware. Wrote hood functional objectives and hood DV & PV test.

● Problem solved body build issues, assisted the Quality Group with scanning parts, and made body check templates. TATA TECH Stablis/Hi-Stat/Honda/Chrysler, Novi, MI Designer Oct 2007 to Nov 2010

● Packaged gas props and Powerise systems for liftgates, using Catia V5, also developed Powercopies of Powerise grommets. Started as a contractor with Tata Tech. then went to direct hire at Stabilus . Sterling Heights, MI, May 2009 to Nov 2010.

● Packaged wheel speed sensors and developed brackets and fasteners using CatiaV5 and Ford’s TeamCenter for Hi-Stat at Ford PDC in Dearborn, MI, May 2008 to Feb 2009.

● Develop BIW body sides, and rear ring sheet metal for liftgate for 2012 Honda Pilot using Catia V5 in Raymond, OH, at Honda for a 7 week assignment.

● Benchmarked Toyota vehicles to develop a low cost vacuum formed HDPE fender liners and belly pans that halved the weight of existing components. (got Nardeli’d) Oct 2007- Dec 2007 Chrysler KBE Engineer. MAGNA STEYR, Auburn Hills, MI Senior Engineer/Chrysler Release Engineer Aug 2003 to Mar 2007

● Release Engineer for tonneau, deckbar, deckbar latches and decklid into VPM for the 2008 Chrysler Sebring hardtop convertible . Developed the processes and fixture design concepts for installing decklid bar-latches, decklid bar and hanging the tonneau on decklid for hands-free attachment. Developed the GD&T and assembly flush and gap for the decklid, tonneau, deckbar, and latch system. All 1st time at Chrysler for these parts and assy fixtures.

● Responsible for initial design of aluminum hood and fenders for new Mercedes “Gull Wing” on location at AMG in Alfalterbach Germany.

● Had several components designed to prevent BSR’s for the Sebring convertible system such as: self-adjusting wedge system for holding 100 lb. decklid, as well roof down capture components for restraining retractable hardtop in trunk, also introduced Pierce studs for the decklid. Also 1st time for all these parts at Chrysler as well. ARVINMERITOR, Detroit, MI Advanced Product Engineer Sept 2000 to Apr 2003 Designed and engineered the “Transformer Minivan” proof of concept for DaimlerChrysler’s Liberty Advanced Engineering group. This consisted of a completely new overhead roof system and a flush to “A” surface drop glass system for a Liftgate/Tailgate that would allow a 2001 minivan to “Transform” into a pickup by activating a few buttons. Designed the mechanisms and the means to move a large rear roof section, as well as a drop glass liftgate/tailgate system on a minivan. Lead contract design team to modify and develop reinforcements and new body panels for these mechanisms. Spec’d out the logic for electrical systems and controls .

● Awarded 5 patents on this roof system. Patents pending for a new drive system for a minivan sliding door, also for a motor and transmission which would power up to three devices, door drive, power lock, and window regulator. Patents pending as co-inventor on sunroof related products.

● Developed mesh wind deflector for Honda Element, and performed sunroof packaging studies for quotes. SEVERAL COMPANIES Mechanisms Design Engineer (Extended list upon request) Oct 1994 to Sept 2003 Electronic Gas pedals, adjustable pedals, standard and hollow brake pedals, plastic clutch pedals, Pull-Pull HVAC controls using non circular gears, plastic transmissions for adjustable pedals, sunroofs, sunroof and window regulator concepts, interior trim components, extrusions, lots of plastic parts, stampings.

● Able to design complex mechanisms accordingly each of the 3 different design stages of either machined and fabricated proof of concept, prototype production intent DV, and finally hard tooled production. EDUCATION
