Work Experience

**/**/****- */**** Owner/Operator vonToffee

In 2012, what first began as a hobby turned into a business at the urging of friends and family. I make Artisanal Toffee. I began with 3 flavors and now have 16. It has since gone on to be published in several food and beverage magazines and has been purchased from all over the world. I love making Toffee and it’s an enjoyable side-business. 10/2005-6/2011 Store Manager/ Fuel Specialist Kroger Company I was employed by the Kroger Company as a Store Manager and a Fuel Specialist. I successfully completed the company's nationally recognized Management Training Programs, MD-1 and MD-2. I was a Retail Store Manager in stores all over Tennessee. My chief roll in the stores was to ensure excellent customer service and that the customers’ shopping experience was pleasant. I used store budgeting and reasonable employee requests to schedule for the needs of the business. I used store operating statements and other financial documents as well as my own sales and inventory spreadsheets to be proactive to be sure we were meeting or exceeding our goals at all times. I oversaw all perishable departments to include Meat, Seafood, Deli, Bakery, Floral, Produce as well as Front End, Customer Service and the Fuel Center. These responsibilities included sensible inventory control practices, making product orders and maintaining inventory in such a way that it kept the shelves in stock while not creating loss by over-ordering. I had over 100 employees report to me at any given time. I participated in the hiring, training, counseling and terminating of employees as well handling their yearly reviews and disciplinary actions. I used my strong interpersonal and leadership skills to efficiently communicate with employees, letting them know they could come to me to talk about ideas and concerns at any time. I held weekly departmental meetings to go over departmental results and expectations. I delegated tasks to create accountability. I also was responsible for keeping detailed employee records as well as mentoring employees on things they could work on to get promoted within the company if interested. I am a Certified Food Safety Manager and I've completed HIPPA training. I’ve obtained several other certifications as well. I’m well versed in Human Resources best practices and laws. In the roles I had with Kroger, I was instrumental in creating and implementing ways to increase sales and profit over 20% in fiscal year 2006 and going forward until I left the company. As a Fuel Specialist, I was responsible for the Kroger Fuel Centers in Middle Tennessee, Southern Kentucky as well as a few in Illinois. I was effective in raising gross profit in the fuel centers by double digits too, by re-merchandising, and keeping the inventories at the correct levels. I was responsible for working with the Real Estate Department to plan construction timeframes for new sites, for working with contractors from the ground up to make sure construction deadlines were met and ensure EPA standards were upheld at all times. I ordered all equipment, hired all personnel and trained all Fuel Employees for new sites. After new sites were opened, I maintained those sites along with existing sites in my division area by making frequent visits to maintain company as well as EPA standards.

I would issue charge-backs for invoices that were incorrectly paid by the automatic payment system. I performed account reconciliation duties, made journal entries, worked with the general ledger and had a major role in month-end closings where I was responsible for the balancing of several accounts. I eventually moved to the technological area of this same company and continued with the internal auditing and duties mentioned above in addition to screening for overpayment, erroneous payments and invoices missed for payment throughout the company. When I left, it was to be a stay-at-home mom. 5/1993 - 3/1999 Manager/Owner/Operator Valu-Plus Foods Indian Mound/TN

I listened to my my employees and encouraged them to share ideas and give feedback which gave them a sense of pride in our store when we reached our goals together. To further drive sales, I expanded the health and beauty aid selection of the store, also, introducing a cosmetic line that I directly oversaw. I took customer special orders as well as maintained an everyday selection of cosmetics and hair care products. I found ways to provide these products at a very reasonable cost to the customer. This personal venture increased health and beauty aid profit by 20% within 1 year. At the time the business was sold in 1999, customer count was up by 50% and average sales per customer were up 20% from where we started when I purchased the store.
