I

Home/ Hospital Teacher

While working as a full-time teacher in Fontana I applied to teach the Home Hospital students in the afternoon and evenings in their home. I taught students that were sick, injured, removed from school because of discipline issues and handicapped. Over the 13 years I did this service I taught Pre- k to 10th grades. I was responsible for providing 20 contact hours a month with the student in person over each month. I provided all the grade level curriculum for each student. I usually was assigned 2 students. This was an overtime position with hourly pay for each student. The Pre-k and Kinder students were taught socialization skills, how to hold a pencil, numbers and letters. Moving on to words and in some cases the Kinder students were able to write sentences and develop a story from a picture they drew. Students used beans and coins for counters, learning to build numbers from other numbers. The students that were in Pre -K and Kinder were giving homework to do with parents to re-enforce the learning skills we did together. Students were taught to color and use the proper color for things they see in life. Students learned to sit for an hour or more at a time and focus on learning skills. The younger students practice their fine motor skills at each lesson to develop writing and coloring skills.
