For some programs, I was the design lead. I communicated directly with customer engineering groups providing technical support for problem resolutions. I designed Plant Equipment for large and small assemblies. I designed 3D printed tools for plant operations.

Experience:

May 2016 to Jan 2017

Mechanical Engineer Contract to Valiant TMS Aerospace Group, Michigan

ITAR Design and Build Supplier. I primarily worked on Boeing programs in the aerospace mechanical group. Job duties included 3D modeling, drafting, and conceptual tool design using CATIA V5/V6 software.

Experience:

June 2013 to Apr 2016

Aerospace Tool Design Engineer Advanced Integrated Technology Solutions, Michigan

ITAR Design and Build Supplier. As an Aerospace tooling design engineer using Catia V5, I have worked on projects for Boeing, Triumph, GKN, Bell 525 Relentless program, Cirrus, Gulfstream, Boeing CH-47 Rotary Wing tools, and a Sikorsky CH-53K program. I designed Composite tooling, Autoclave tools, Layup tools, Laminate templates, Bond tools, machine fixtures, and hand router fixtures. I used Catia V5 R16 thru R21, and V6 R2013 - V6 R2015.

Nov 2011 to June 2013

Mechanical Designer Comau Aerospace, Michigan

ITAR Design and Build Supplier. Our group was an Integrator for a complete plant set-up for aircraft wing assemblies. I provided conceptual designs, assembly tools, fixtures, and determined process viability. 777 'S' Wall and Galley experience for Design, Plant Work Flow, TAKT Time, and Work Cell Kitting. I met with both customers and suppliers for problem resolution. I was a team member of several internal design groups. I provided conceptual designs for work cells and end of arm tooling for robotic workstations. I used Catia V5 R18 and R19.

June 2007 to June 2011 Odyssey Inc., Michigan

Aerospace Tool Engineer

ITAR Design and Build Supplier. I provided tool designs for several major Aerospace programs including Airbus A350 XWB and Boeing 787. I designed composite lay-up mold tools, CH-53K Flex Beam bond jig, Autoclave tools, paraplast mold tools, CNC machine fixtures, large assembly tools with platforms, drill jigs, trim templates and generated CAD drawings of each tool. I used Catia V5 R16, R17, R18, & R19. I set-up and ran 3 & 5 axis CNC Mills also.

Apr 2005 to Jun 2007 Contract to CRH N/A Warren, Michigan

Prototype Design Lead

I provided prototype tooling using Catia V5 for dies, machine fixtures, weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, and CMM holding fixtures for their seat adjuster product line. I gained experience in product design. I provided solutions to manufacturing groups to reduce process bottlenecks. I also developed in-house processes for Phosphate & Oil, and several tube flaring processes, which were solutions for multi-million dollar assembly problems. I programmed CNC cutterpaths using Catia V5. I designed the metrology lab including the purchase of equipment. I purchased CNC Milling machines and a CNC lathe w/ live C-axis tooling.

Other Proficiencies:

I started my career in the shop and earned my Journeyman Machinist.

I completed a Quality Degree in Metrology and Calibration.

I worked as an Inspector operating both manual & DC drive CMM’s.

I received professional CAD/CAM training for Solution 3000, CIM-LINC, Unigraphics (NX), WorkNC CAD and CAM, Catia V4, and Catia V5. I have used most software programs for a minimum of 3 years, Catia for 12 years in Aerospace industries.

I have design experience for dies, molds, a myriad of fixtures and assembly tools.

I did 6 month a study of Additive Manufacturing processes for an employer. After reading manufacturers training manuals, watching videos and speaking with experts in the field of A.M. as it relates to Aerospace tooling, I ran process comparisons against our current methodology. In the end, it was clear there was a huge potential for A.M. in the future. However, at that time due the extreme cost of materials and the as yet unquantified cost of secondary operations on large scale Aerospace tooling, a case for a viable business model could not be substantiated.

At present, much has changed in A.M.. 3D printer material prices have come down and definition of secondary processes has improved. A.M. is now replacing tooling aids and flight hardware on a regular basis at a cost savings and reduced timing.
