T5 Respiratory Ward (Tracheostomy Care)
I provided holistic care to patients with chronic or acute respiratory conditions such as COPD, Asthma, Pneumothorax, TB patients and Tracheostomy care.
As it is a medical ward I have also dealt with patients with renal, cardiac, gastric, palliative, and endocrine conditions until the patients are relocated to the assigned wards according to their specialities. In T5 ward I provide Care to tracheostomy patients on a regular one to one basis. These patients come from a long stay at a Critical Care Unit and are now stable but require daily 24 hrs tracheostomy care. The care I have provided is holistic and adheres to the NMC code of conduct and guidelines. It complies with the Department of Health 6 c’s which are Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage and Commitment. Complying with health and safety standard procedures and infection control at all times. I have provided a safe and aseptic environment for the patients that I looked after. Displaying good communication skills when communicating with patients and family. For example I have managed to reassured patients at distressful times and ensured effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team working with me. I am able to prioritise my work effectively and performed all the nurse’s skills required such as IV therapy, the administration of oral medications, Catheterization for female patients, NG tube insertion, Wound Care, Suctioning, Chest drains, Oxygen Therapy, Peg and NG feeding regimes, Pressure area care, Blood transfusion, Tracheostomy care and more. I have actively participated in the admission and the discharge process of patients. I have completed all the relevant nursing training up to date.
