As a Medical Assistant with PMS Western New Mexico Medical Group, I worked back office with patients under 2 Nurse Practitioners and 2 Doctors.Being a Medical Assistant, I roomed patients. Took their vitals: weight, manual blood pressure, oxygen reading, heart rate, and drew blood. We provided chronic illness care for illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma, acute illness care, preventive medicine, family planning, women’s health, wellness physicals and screenings.
As a MA I helped manage medical records; I reviewed patient's physical charts, including the medical history, document doctor's notes, current medications, I recorded a patient’s current weight and blood pressure and all other vitals and key their pre-exam interview responses into a computer database. I also was responsible for filing patient medical records, and adding written accounts from Doctors or nurses based on exams and any lab tests. Then enter that information into an electronic database system or verify if it was entered correctly for the Dr. visit. I sent records to other departments. For instance, in order to bill a patient or insurance company, or outside referral on further care and treatments needed.

I also was responsible for filing patient medical records, and adding written accounts from Doctors or nurses based on exams and any lab tests. Then enter that information into an electronic database system or verify if it was entered correctly for the Dr. visit. I sent records to other departments. For instance, in order to bill a patient or insurance company, each procedure or service provided needs to be assigned a particular code that refers to an agreed-upon fee. Therefore I made sure the Dr had entered the right codes.
