Description of duties: Worked alongside other interns and full-time employees to maintain and conserve one of America’s national wildlife refuges. Duties consisted of typical yard work such as mowing grass, planting landscapes and lake management. We would go out on calls of injured or captive animals and take them to the appropriate rehabilitator or nurse them to health and return them to the wild. Several times I got the opportunity to go with some of the biologists and band songbirds or Canada Geese. Worked closely with the Refuge Manager helping him in any duties necessary such as raking beaver dams to allow water passage, or boundary marking on the edges of the refuge in difficult and exhausting terrain.

As the assistant head guard at the pool I was also trained in operating the pumps for the sprinklers and slides.
