SUMMARY

Neema Kassim is a Senior Researcher in Food Safety and Nutrition, and a Faculty at the Department of Food Biotechnology and Nutritional Sciences of the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST). Her research interest has been on food safety risk assessment (mycotoxins, pesticides and antibiotic residues, heavy metals) with a particular interest in bridging the knowledge and evidence gap of the impact of food safety on; food-nutrition security, health and trade. Over the past ten years, Dr. Kassim has led and collaborated in food safety and nutrition research, consultancy, teaching and outreach activities that have built her career to a strong research scientist. Dr. Kassim has been leading a number of research projects; the food safety risk assessment of pulses, fruits and vegetables funded by Rikolto East Africa; evidence-based control randomized trials -“Trial to Establish Causal Linkage Between Mycotoxins Exposure and Child Stunting” funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; and the participatory farmer-based agro-ecology and nutrition education intervention -“Singida Nutrition and Agro-ecology Project (SNAP)” funded by McKnight Foundation.
