I’m an Emmy-winning Copywriter/Creative Director (one of only a handful of advertising Copywriters in the country to win an Emmy). I’ve worked as a Copywriter for a couple of decades (often as a freelancer) at every major ad agency in Los Angeles and some in San Francisco.

I was recently working for the marketing department of a wonderful Real Estate Investment company https://hughescapital.com/ - great company but rising interest rates have tanked the real estate market so I was laid off at the end of December. I was mostly doing Direct Marketing

(Pay-Per-Click, Facebook, email, etc.)

I was CD/Copywriter of NFL on Fox for 2 years. (Best job eva.) I was also Creative Director/Copywriter on the $100 million Acura National Brand for 2 years. I love to write and can’t believe people actually pay me to do it. (Okay, sometimes they don’t pay me for it – I’m a WILDLY unsuccessful screenwriter, having written 9 spec screenplays and sold zilch.) I’ve worked on every type of product/service on the planet – from computer chips to potato chips, from cars (19 brands) to kids’ toys (I won the $10,000 Ogilvy Award for a Barbie Campaign). I even wrote Fashion advertising for Bijan of Beverly Hills (which, if you’ve ever seen me dress, should be against the law). I have probably 10 years worth of retail experience for different products.

I created their Website (WordPress and WooCommerce) – even created a searchable vendor database to help their Mom & Pop toy shops during Covid. Copy for the games, concepted and wrote actual games themselves, emails, tradeshow stuff, fun social and digital. I also shot most of their photography (product) and video / editing / motion graphics. Great company; great experience.

I’ve worked in every type of media/platform. (TV, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Digital, Social (Paid & Organic), Websites, email, Direct Response, Guerilla and Content Creation (articles, blogs, and videos). I’ve been hired to write everything from a 150 page, Lead Gen book on Finance to a jingle for a prison toilet.

(Premiere Pro, After Effects, iMovie, Animate cc, Photoshop, Canva) and have my own camera, lights, and sound equipment). Lately, I’ve been shooting a lot of MOJO (Mobile Journalism – shooting on my iPhone 13ProMax and posting straight to the web. It’s awesome for doing customer research and creating web content at the same time.) I code. I’m not a 10x programmer but I’m proficient in Python (the lingua franca of Data Science), and I’m can do real work in R, SQL, jQuery, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, WordPress/WooCommerce, and some JavaScript. Here’s a fun web app I built (Shartificial Intelligence) using a Markov Chain Text Generation algorithm (pre-GPT-3) and Python Flask. I’m proficient with ChatGPT and MidJourney.

My team of misfits won a Chatbot Hackathon a few years back. (We built a prototype of a TherapyBot based on Solution Focused Therapy). I’ve built a couple of Alexa apps. (Here’s a fun one I built for my daughter and her friends – Dagny Fun Facts. I’ve recently become very interested in Conversation Design and building ChatBots for clients. I’m also super interested in new no-code/low-code solutions (like Anvil, Streamlit, Gradio, Flourish & Shiny) and ways to use them for clients in Digital & Social – especially for building incredibly interactive and engaging landing pages. I see enormous opportunity in using Automated Machine Learning (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, HuggingFace) and “auto code” innovations like GitHub Copilot (mind blown).

I’ve written a TON of Tech (Apple, Microsoft, LeaseWeb, etc.). Love me some tech. Here’s some fun tech content/blog stuff I’ve written recently. I took a class last year from Google on Technical Writing (documentation). Even after being a writer for a bunch of years, I learned a lot – especially about being precise, succinct, and understanding how to help the user/reader understand a subject that’s often complex.

For the last 8 years, I’ve been obsessed with finding ways to mine and utilize data, Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and especially NLP (Natural Language Processing) in order to create more impactful and efficient ad creative, strategies, and content. (I’m Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager Certified. I’m working on getting Growth Hacker Certified.) I have various levels of experience using tools to collect, measure and analyze data like HubSpot, Hootsuite, Later, Iconosquare and HotJar. Lately, I’ve been studying ways to acquire useful data using SaaS apps like SparkToro and LeadSift. And skills like web scraping, data exchanges, and OSINT techniques (OSINT – Open Source Intelligence used by Investigative Reporters, Private Detectives and Bounty Hunters.) In addition to being able to do real work in that area, it’s evident that more and more products and services depend on aspects of Artificial Intelligence. No one is more qualified to write about data, Machine Learning, and AI than I am. I’m a better Data Scientist than any Copywriter and a better Copywriter than any Data Scientist.
