A Self-Paced Learning Project (May 2023 to Present)
I developed a prototype housed within MS Access, which uses VBA to leverage database tools such as tables, forms and queries to communicate with WORD and EXCEL Messaging uses the REST API to transmit messages through TWILIO. The prototype contains the same SMS features found in commercial SMS applications. The distinction is the prototype is a RAD (Rapid Application Development) capable of being customized for practical situations. I am now adapting the app to assist small groups and project management.

Business Metrics is the transformation of complex source files into meaningful and visually appealing reports. Using ACCESS queries, specific fields are extracted and appended into a single table. Commonality is the key to extract and recombined the source files; which are exported into a single EXCEL workbook. Each supporting source file is likewise exported and included within the analysis workbook. Commonality transforms fields into columns. This common thread enables select statements to perform calculations. The filtering mechanism within Excel enhances the ability of the user to easily the data. Pivot tables summarize the data into visually appealing tables. One workbook with the ability to contain multiple source files; each independently calculated based on their own set of business rules. The greatest benefit of this technique is the ability to adapt to change. Changes within the business and changes within the environment.
Retirement (April 2018 to April 2022)
My retirement consisted of investing in real estate. Purchasing, remodeling and reselling properties is not for the faint hearted. Especially, for those of us who do not possess multiple skill sets. Speculation is labor intensive unless professionals are hired, in which case the profits diminish. My transformation into a real estate speculator came with a greater learning curve. I derive satisfaction and purpose by participation in veteran organizations and inner peace by evangelizing and feeding the homeless. I continue speculation but confine my activities to the financial markets and leave real estate to those brave souls with greater knowledge, skill and experience
