Assistant Manager
Christmas Tree Shops
May 1986 to April 2010
I began my 24-year career with Christmas Tree Shops as a clerk/cashier. From there, I was promoted to stock crew supervisor and, eventually, Assistant Manager. As Assistant Manager with Christmas Tree Shops, I learned and grew in this position, which was essentially divided into three specific roles, each of which I performed throughout my career: The HR Manager was responsible for hiring and creating training schedules for new employees. The HR Manager also finalized weekly schedules for the entire store crew, in addition to maintaining employee files as well as the cash office. Also the go to person for customer service issues. The Operations Manager was responsible for the safety of the stockroom and sales floor, as well as organization of the stockroom, unloading of trucks and overseeing product flow from backroom to sales floor.
The Planning Manager was responsible for reading and analyzing all reports pertaining to sales, inventory, department totals and profit margins, as well as setting goals for successfully stocking merchandise on the sales floor. Merchandise replenishment and ordering was accomplished by working closely with two to three Merchandise Coordinators, and directing them as needed. In addition to ordering, the Planning Manager was responsible for the overall look of the product on the sales floor, from displays to the accurate completion of planograms. To execute the task of stocking and maintaining a neat and efficient sales floor, one or two Stock Crew Supervisors were under direction from the Planning Manager, working together to achieve goals in a timely fashion. Using a program called Vizio, the Planning manager mapped out the sales floor, aisle by aisle. This program aided in floor plan changes, as well as adding additional fixtures for temporary displays. During my career with Christmas Tree Shops, I was often given the opportunity to travel to various stores within the company to assist in the grand openings or re-modeling. In this capacity, I filled numerous roles, according to the nature of support needed by a specific store. Some examples of this support included stocking shelves, training new employees, local job fairs, or helping to ensure a successful opening day.
