COVER LETTER
NGOZI YOUNG
I am passionate about teaching. I am a patient, ethical, caring, and knowledgeable instructor, who work with her students collaboratively to ensure their success. All students can achieve through learning. As an instructor, I facilitate meaningful learning of the course competencies in the curriculum. A learning environment free from disruption and discrimination is needed for students’ success as well as opportunities for them to succeed in any academic setting. Collaboration with other faculty members is of utmost relevance to improve student performance and outcome.
I adopt learning-centered instruction by using different methods of technological tools such as Clickers, Canvas, and Blended methods that provide a positive academic results among students. Flexibility in teaching style is maintained to facilitate student success and improved academic outcomes. The goal is to prepare the students for the evolving complex workforce society. I encourage a learning culture that enhances mutual responsibility, accountability, workforce ethics, life-long learning, and respect for others uniqueness. I also encourage professional development among students which engage them in the learning process. Discussion, which is an important online learning tool, brings about cooperation between students, students and the course, and students and their instructors.
Peer-review, Collaborative work, Quizzes and Exams are used to test/check students’ knowledge and understanding in classwork. The use of Scenario-induced collaborative work cuts across diversity and boosts the students’ self-esteem, group dynamics, and reflective thinking. Students are empowered to apply classroom learning to improve their English language competency and as well as to everyday life. I carry my students along. I have a high expectation of students and I expect them to come to class on time, being well-prepared and participate actively in lectures. I work hard with students to bring them up to where their Educational dreams is leading them. It is my best feelings to see my students shift from being nervous at the process of learning English language, to being self-confident while communicating in English language.
The goal is to enhance student learning and student outstanding academic outcomes. I am a life-long learner in English language, Drama, Writing (Novel and Poetry) and Literature. I actively participate in Curriculum updates, Campus committees and English language Events. I maintain professional development to keep abreast of professional trends and opportunities. I manage time, student learning records, and academic policies, timely and effectively. I have taught and still teaching online English language classes like ESL (English as a second language) for more than 20 years, both online and in-class.
The online English language courses/classes became necessary following the Covid-19 pandemic issues. I teach my students now with the new teaching strategies such as: Teaching in the nexus with the use of HIPA-method and Studying of student’s temperaments. I also use Explicit Direct Instructions (EDI) which helps me to collaborate, interact and in fact make my class enjoyable. Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) also helps the students to understand the lectures very well. Another new method which helps me in class is ‘The Thinking Maps Strategy of Teaching’ to deliver my lectures very effectively to students.
