Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results

Personally develop ME skills, as well as train and develop others in their effective use

Lead ME based improvement initiatives within the department and mill to improve safety, reliability, efficiency and/or quality issues

Identify and implement cost reduction strategies that reduce the cost of ownership

Production - Ascertains assigned production goals at the start of the shift, assigns personnel and determines the use of machines to achieve goals. Arranges for the flow of raw material and finished product. Monitors progress during the shift and facilitate appropriate adjustments. Coordinates with Maintenance personnel for equipment optimization and repair. Participates in analyzing equipment, machinery, and making changes/recommendations to lower costs and improve operating performance.

Communication - Creates an open problem-solving climate throughout the department. Understands and communicates business strategy, goals and initiatives to employees

Employee Relations - Interviews and evaluates prospective employees; evaluates, prepares and deliver performance appraisals; initiates disciplinary action as required; hears and responds to employee concerns; trains motivates, encourages and leads workforce in continuous improvement process efforts.

Administration - Prepares and submits shift logs, production and inventory reports, time records and other reports on shift activities as requested. Submits work order notifications, work, and safety guidelines.

Safety - Pro-active in maintaining a safe and productive environment for the assigned shift/department which includes: thoroughly training new employees on how to work safely, recognize hazards, understand safety rules that apply and consequences of non- compliance; ensure necessary safety equipment and protective devices are provided/used; enforce safety rules; have adequate self-inspection program for safety; take prompt corrective action when unsafe conditions or acts are identified; investigate all accidents and develop corrective action; see that all injuries are reported promptly; conduct weekly safety meetings for all employees; actively participate in monthly safety training; give full support to all safety procedures and activities; fulfill all training requirements

(i.e. Hazard Communication, Lock-out/Tag-out); assign safety lock-out devices to personnel; in emergencies, direct control efforts of employees and order their safe evacuation.

Quality- Requires employees to follow all provisions of operating instructions and good manufacturing practices. Monitors quality of output and takes appropriate action, including the shutdown of the process, to prevent or limit the production of the off-grade material. Conducts investigations to determine the causes of quality defects.
