PERSONAL
My father was a tool & die maker. I was raised with a machine shop in the basement. In high school I was a finalist in the Westinghouse Science Talent Search. I was named to the top 1,000 science students in high school and college by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. I worked my way through college as a systems analyst and programmer. I wrote and/or maintained all the accounting and manufacturing control software for the largest independent engine bearing manufacturer in the world. On campus I supported Professor Hirshfield’s plasma physics laboratory. I am hands on, not theoretical in my approach to everything. I understand accounting and manufacturing from first principles.

INFORMATION RESOURCES BACKGROUND
I worked my way through undergraduate school as a programmer and systems analyst, both on campus and for corporate applications in the summer.
Administrative Science, one of my majors at Yale, was half Operations Research (the application of analytical methods to make better decisions) and half Behavioral Psychology.
My first full time job was initially to assess and restructure the systems analysis group for the company.
Later, I became the in-house champion for MRP (the predecessor to ERP) as the latest concept in Operations Research, and actively participated in Oliver Wight systems development and applications.
At General Dynamics I continued to champion MRP/ERP, led the Information Resources Management group in the division and ultimately was the first to successfully implement ERP on a major program in the corporation as Vice President of Energy Programs.
At Advatech Pacific I led a team of 50 Information Technology experts, Object Oriented Language Software coders, and applications experts in supporting the analysis of advanced programs for the Air Force Research Laboratory at Edwards Ari Force Base.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I am a cost-focused, objective-oriented finance, strategic planning and business development professional, with extensive experience who works well under pressure and gets results.
Took control of a floundering product line. Dedicated effort towards intensive face-to-face availability and communication, structured to identify needs and to “delight the customer.” Result: a three-fold revenue growth in three years.
Advatech Pacific, Inc., General Manager Missiles and Space Division
Defended a market from a major competitor’s offer to a top-tier account. Analyzed the supply chain, and proposed a mix of support services, returns credits and a small price reduction. Result: Customer was satisfied and relationships with other major accounts were not disrupted.
Gould, Inc., Clevite Engine Bearings, Replacement Distribution Warehouse, Business Manager
Changed the strategic vision of a stagnant business. Added the growing market of supporting the customer’s logistics process. Result: Three-fold increase in backlog allowed us to complete a $45 million IPO.
SpaceHab, Inc, President &CEO
Needed a path to future growth. Assembled the division business development directors to seek synergistic market opportunities. Result: captured $50 million of CIC development work on the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan and leadership of 3 of the 7 integrated product teams.
Comptek, Inc, Vice President of Business Development
Dissatisfied with a “going out of business” product line. Proposed a bold price increase and realignment of prices to our part-by-part costs. Result: The other – and major - supplier in the market (GM) adopted our pricing, and raised them 6%. Better than 15% profitability achieved.
Gould, Inc., Clevite Engine Bearings, Replacement Distribution Warehouse, Business Manager
Discovered aberrations in pricing for key products at key customers. Issued a targeted major price increase with interim pricing to allow those customers to locate new sources. Result: No unit volume was lost on any part number, and the product line showed the first profit in a decade.
Gould, Inc., Clevite Engine Bearings, Original Equipment Manufacturing and Marketing, Business Manager

Created and presented a plan to the Board of Directors for a new commercial venture. Suggested a limited enhancement of an existing product would be very competitive in the world market. Result: Successful multi-billion-dollar market defined and captured for the Corporation.
General Dynamics Space Systems Division, Vice President of Planning and Resource Management
Identified weakness in high-volume equipment that was plagued by lower than anticipated yield. Created a unique “bonus” concept for machine operators. Result: Productivity on those machines leaped to 220% on the day of implementation, and continued stable.
Gould, Inc., Clevite Engine Bearings, Original Equipment Manufacturing and Marketing, Business Manager
Implemented a new product in a new factory from the ground up. Employed MRP/ERP tools from the earliest planning through the smallest detail designed or procured. Result: Produced first article on time and on budget.
General Dynamics Space Systems Division, Vice President and Business Area Manager of Energy Programs
Relocated production processes to a low-cost, non-union environment, from a production floor running at full capacity. Identified independent families of machines and tooling to move in waves. Result: Transfer completed in one year with no break in deliveries or loss of quality.
Gould, Inc., Clevite Engine Bearings, Original Equipment Manufacturing and Marketing, Business Manager
Authored a customer-focused “orals” presentation, as well as “Best and Final” offer. Focused on organization experience, existing resources and cost and schedule credibility. Result: A one-billion-dollar contract, which, with associated business, grew to more than three billion dollars.
General Dynamics Space Systems Division, Vice president of Planning and Resource Management
Reorganized a past presentation that had been received as a “disaster.” Emphasized logical flow and clear assumptions and conclusions - adding no new information. Result: Management endorsed and implemented recommendations in advance of the predicted changes by the customer.
The Boeing Company, Integrated Defense Systems Headquarters, Director of Business Development 2002.
I would be delighted to discuss any of these, and more, in detail at your convenience.

Arthur Laffer Economist
To: The Executive
Subject: Recommendation of Richard Hora, HGI Partner
This recommendation comes from a position of strength. I have known Richard Hora for more than 15 years, and my father knew him and his family long before that. Richard is the Partner leading the consulting practice for Harvard Group International, an organization that balances executive search and consulting. Volatility is the new normal in this economy and Richard with Harvard Group has become an asset to many CEO's and Boards.
Richard Hora is an uncommon individual for an uncommonly challenging time. With our dramatic economic change there has been a revealing effect — the demand for visionary, high-performing executives and Board members has increased dramatically. Yet, according to Forbes’ analysis, baby boomers are currently leaving Board assignments four times faster than expected. This phenomenon has left major holes within many corporate Boards.
I can commend Richard's energy, enthusiasm and creativity. Dick has brought high intelligence, astute business judgment and sound leadership into each assignment, demonstrating an ability to successfully deal with complex and challenging business situations, and surmount obstacles encountered with resilience and determination. His analytical capabilities are the absolute "best in class." You will find him a pleasure to speak with.”
We know that courageous people have a sense of wonder and leaders show no fear of the future. This is the time to set a strategy in motion that assures positioning for healthy growth. Richard Hora and HGI can bring the fun and the profit back to the decade ahead.
Warmest Rewards.
