Dear Hiring Manager:

I believe the Accounting Manager position with Avenue5 Residential, LLC, is an excellent fit for my qualifications, experience, and passion. I have over twenty years of progressively responsible financial accounting experience, including more than twelve years working in the capacity of a Controller. My role working as a manager is highlighted by my demonstrated ability to attain people’s best effort on a consistent basis, through an approach emphasizing team building, communication and product ownership.

Most recently I managed an Accounting Team for a residential construction company and was responsible for the monthly financial reporting and analysis, closing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. Prior to that I worked as a Controller for a large retail organization, managing a team of six, where I was responsible for the monthly financial reporting, closing and production of financial statements for nearly 400 stores. I oversaw accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax (for five states) and was responsible for the accuracy of the general ledger. I also worked with a small Team that performed financial forecasting quarterly and when preparing the annual budget.

I feel I am well qualified to work as the Accounting Manager for Avenue5 Residential, LLC, because of the balance of skills I would provide through:

• Demonstrated leadership success: I have worked cohesively with other department managers to set policy, standards, goals and objectives. I possess the ability to train and educate those that I supervise and work with on projects or other engagements.

• Financial management: In my work as the Business Manager for a health care organization, I developed and monitored a $17 million budget including five-year financial projections. I supervised accounting, billing, medical records, and had oversight for more than sixty contracts.

• Efficient supervision, project oversight and reporting: My ability to develop and carry out a plan, pay attention to time budgets, and communicate effectively with management peers and support staff has led to greater efficiency in my work.

• Strong presentation and reporting skills: I have significant experience, and am very comfortable presenting reports or other information to large groups of people. I am also an advanced Excel user and very good with Word, Access and PowerPoint.

• Financial statements: As a preparer and auditor of financial statements for more than for fifteen years, I am well prepared to produce financial statements and footnote disclosures. Additionally I am very familiar with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and their role in setting generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). I am also very familiar with the budget development and monitoring process and the role reliable financial reporting plays in maintaining budget compliance.

• Internal control focus: Performing audits in multiple business sectors for eight years and working for First Interstate Bank as an internal auditor has provided me with an appreciation for the value of creating and monitoring internal controls to minimize risk.
