Responded to mutual aid EMS calls as needed when on shift.

Performed EMS reports when back from the hospital using our reporting system.

One of our tasks was dispatching, this include but was not limited to receiving 911 calls, dispatching the appropriate manpower and apparatus to incoming calls, calling for mutual aid when the shift commander ask for it, calling for the utility companies when directed, record management through the shift, receive incoming fire boxes when they signaled in, answered all incoming phone calls and sent them to the appropriate person, handled all non-emergency calls, greeted and assisted people as they came into the fire house, and reported to the shift commander as needed.

Scheduled training on each shift on the scheduled topic.

Worked on a 24hr shift with mandatory overtime that could run up to 48hrs unless it was a state of emergency that would keep us on shift until that emergency was downscaled.

While not on schedule shifts I was on call 24hrs and would respond to the station when the call came ion for all off duty personnel needed.

I oversaw our Public Education Department and had to schedule all in town public education events. These included but not limited to fire education in the schools, elder events in coordination with our Counsel on Aging, Fire station open house events, all Fire Prevention Week activities, and all inquiries that may have come in from the town residents.,

As the Fire Public Education coordinator, I had to write a state SAFE grant each year. In the over 10 years I oversaw the program I was able to have our department rewarded with an approximate amount of $56,000. These funds help the department with ordering needed educational equipment, supplies, materials, personnel cost, and training.

While overseeing this program I had to order all educational material through different vendors that met the needs of our programs.

I also had to fill in needed vacancies within our program with department member and train them with in our scope of our educational programs.

When it was time, I had to train the individual who would take the program over.

I was promoted to Captain in 2012 and became the shift commander of our Group 4.

I became our Fire Prevention Officer that oversaw our fire prevention program. This included but was not limited to commercial inspections, school inspections, fire suppression plan review and revise, smoke and CO residential certification needed for home sales, in house fire prevention training, and all scheduling of all and any reinspection in need of correction for compliance.

I implemented our residential in-house detector and safety inspection program. This involved all members of our department. Residents would call in to schedule a fire department visit. The on-duty crew would arrive to the residence and walk through the home with a check list and make recommendation to improve the safety both interior and exterior of the residence. We would also check the smoke and CO detectors for proper placement and function. If the resident could not afford the detectors we would install at no cost. This also provided ongoing training for our members.

I assisted another member with obtaining a Federal grant that allowed us to purchase gym equipment and bring a personal trainer in to so every member how to safely use the new equipment. This member and I also worked together to build the gym in our fire station.

I assisted our department Chief with the implementation of yearly First Responder physicals. These physicals included bloodwork, stress tests, prostate checks, ultrasounds of all major organs and arteries, breathing and hearing test. This gave each member a base line on there medical and physical fitness but most importantly it helps either prevent future situations or caught anything early on.

I developed and implemented new SOG (standard operating guidelines) when the Chief and I felt a new one needed to be drafted. Trained all other shift commanders before they brought it to their members.

I was also on the hiring board for our department and for our town dispatchers. For our department we would interview potential new hires to fill needed vacancies or other that could arise. This process involved a resume, interview, and practical evaluations. The dispatch interviews involved me, the Dispatcher supervisor, and a police sergeant. During my years involved I had the honor and privilege of being involved in hundreds of interviews.

I implemented in coordination with our Council on Aging department a yearly Senior Expo Fair. We brought in outside agencies related to our senior population such as Emerson hospital, visiting angles, state Medicare official, our towns emergency management team, public educators from our fire department, Pro EMS, and others. We would come up with a related topics and would teach free classes to whom ever needed them. We would also give out free information and materials associated to their needs.
