Merck Site Safety Coach 2019 to 2022
Provided Senior Safety Leadership, coaching, supporting the launch and initiation of Merck’s High Risk Permitting Program developed to focus on mitigation and elimination of unsafe incidents and injuries regarding both capital project activities and ongoing site manufacturing operations. Interfaced with all Merck Integrated Project Teams Capital Management Teams. Focused on coaching, issuance of high-risk permits, consultations and field safety reviews. Also provided coaching for 5 new Merck Safety Coaches during my tenure for this initiative.
Site Construction/Safety Manager 2018 to 2019
Supported DSM Resins Augusta, Ga. Suite of Projects; new Fire Water System, new Boiler and a variety of plant specific projects. Responsible for all day-day execution interchange will all contractors during this period. Also served a direct liaison to Project and Plant Engineering for FEL exercises for the upcoming 2019 Capital Plan. Currently overseeing the installation of a new 1M Gallon Fire Water Tank and related components.
Site Safety Manager, Amec Foster Wheeler 2017 to 2018
Supported General Mill Yoplait Murfreesboro, TN Ultra Project during shutdown period.
Responsible for all site safety orientation and special training. Approximately 11 contractors with an average workforce of 60+. Supported all JSA development and daily Hot Work Permits. Prepared and conducted Weekly Safety Meeting for all contractors onsite.

Responsible for 15 Field Safety Managers and coordination with Amec Foster Wheeler Regional Vice Presidents, their Project Managers for continuous improvement and the Realization of Zero incidents process. Lead the initiatives that enabled two Amec Foster Wheeler programs to become recipients of the CURT 2014 outstanding safety awards presented in Houston, TX.
Successfully lead the integration from Yonkers to Foster Wheeler to Amec Foster Wheeler. Leading three different safety cultural transitions within 2 years.
Successfully lead the Process and Industrial Division from a mean average Recordable Incident Rate of 0.40 beginning in 2012 to a current 0.08 in 2015 for approximately 30 programs. 2016 current rate in 0.00!

Created and lead the implementation of Site Program Management (SPM) SPM was specifically designed to support pre-construction readiness for all capital projects. SPM was fully responsible for all safety, logistic, environment and cultural objectives for the programs it supported.
Responsible for providing leadership for the following programs; Durham/ Wilson/Charlotte, NC, Elkton VA, Cleveland, TN, Albany, GA, Miami Lake, FL., and Los Piedras, PR. See below most significant project accomplishments.
VMF Program– $1.5B (throughout various phases) Responsible for all site program management elements, to include safety, logistics, cultural development and behavior modification processes. Responsible for the development of all program elements that eventually supported ~ 800 craft to the site. Planned and established all engineering and management facilities. This project received the CURT CISE Safety Award for outstanding safety performance. This program was also selected as “Best Program”, Merck Worldwide.
Rubix Project ~$120MM: Responsible for the complete planning, managing, and execution of simvastatin technology transfer to Puerto Rico utilizing modularized process modules imported from US. Project responsibilities covered the complete project cycle from conceptual planning and continuing to scope development, project justification, funding approvals, design development, detailed design, procurement (materials, equipment, & subcontracts), construction, startup & commissioning, validation interface & support, and project turnover/closeout. Responsible for all site administration and execution including safety, quality control, project procedures, project execution planning, project reporting, client interface, management of A/E partners, and management of site PM/CM personnel. This project received CURT CISE Safety Award for outstanding safety performance.
Flint River Construction Program ~$500MM (throughout various phases) Responsible for the complete planning, managing, and execution of Simvastatin Program 20/30/40 and 120K. Project responsibilities covered the complete project cycle from conceptual planning and continuing to scope development, project justification, funding approvals, design development, detailed design, procurement (materials, equipment, & subcontracts), construction, startup & commissioning, validation interface & support, and project turnover/closeout. Responsible for all site administration and execution including safety, quality control, project procedures, project execution planning, project reporting, client interface, management of A/E partners, and management of site PM/CM personnel. This suite of projects went over 4MM safe work hours without a recordable or lost time accident. Longest tenure of safe effort hours within Merck.
Fluor Daniel 1973 to 1993
Albany, GA
Project Manager
Onsite Project Manager responsible for this state of the art pipe fabrication facility for E.I. DuPont. Responsible all shop production planning, shop flow, material logistics, specialty fabrication for ASME Code and jacketed piping. Responsible for all site administration and execution including safety, quality control, project procedures, project execution planning, project reporting, client interface, support of A/E partners, and management of all shop personnel (385 employees). Received significant recognition for innovations that improved overall shop production performance 52% with a 38% reduction in fabrication cost.
This program encompassed over 13.5 years without a recordable or lost time. The program was awarded the Fluor Daniel 5 Star safety award. I was awarded the DuPont Gold Plumb Bob for outstanding safety performance as an individual. Transferred to Kinston, NC after DuPont closed this facility in 1986.

SM#7 Spinning Machine Upgrades ~$250MM: Responsible for the complete planning, managing, and execution this direct hire/self - performed transfer of spinning manufacturing from Old Hickory, TN to Kinston, NC. Project responsibilities all mechanical and piping upgrades. The complete project cycle from conceptual planning and continuing to scope development, project justification, funding approvals, design development, detailed design, procurement (materials, equipment, & subcontracts), construction, startup & commissioning, validation interface & support, and project turnover/closeout. Responsible for all site administration and execution including safety, quality control, project procedures, project execution planning, project reporting, client interface, management of A/E partners, and management of site PM/CM personnel. This suite of projects also went well over 4MM safe work hours without a recordable or lost time accident.
