CAREER SUMMARY

Adedapo Adenekan is a professional economist with more than ten years of central banking and international experience at the level of executive management, leadership, operations execution, report and corporate services. He was engaged with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), from 2015 to 2022, where he served at various capacities as the Head of Economic and Social Indicators Office; Oil, Gas and Solid Minerals Office; and Publication and Editorial Unit. He was a Board Member and the Managing Editor of the CBN Economic and Financial Review and the CBN Brief from 2019 to 2022. Before joining the CBN, he was the Country Economist for Nigeria (Senior Level Position), from 2010 to 2015, at the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI)—an organization established to undertake the technical preparation for the West African Central Bank, toward the launching of a single currency for the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ). Adedapo led or participated in several teams on macroeconomic surveillance and analyses of economies, covering real, fiscal, monetary, financial and trade sectors and policies in Nigeria and other assigned Member-States in the WAMZ (The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone).

Adedapo has diverse working experience in an international and multicultural environment, including the Baltimore County Human Relation Commission and Maryland State Police Department (Intelligence Division). He also worked in the Academia as a Visiting or Adjunct Professor at Towson University and Morgan State University over the years. Broad responsibilities include serving as the Country Economist (Nigeria), conducting multilateral surveillance missions for the assessment of the macroeconomic convergence criteria and other economic indicators toward the attainment of monetary union in the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ)

Specific duties in the Multilateral Surveillance Department

Liaised with the Monetary and Fiscal Authorities in Nigeria and other assigned Member-States to underscore the consideration of the WAMZ convergence criteria in policy design and implementation;

Gathered, processes and analyzes data on economic and socio-political developments in Nigeria;

Monitored the macroeconomic developments and progress towards the macroeconomic convergence in Nigeria and other Member-States;

Undertook the statutory Half-Year and Annual Macroeconomic Missions to Nigeria and other Member States;

Established and maintained close collaboration with regional and non-regional institutions to facilitate financial sector integration and development in the Zone, including the Stock Exchanges, Securities and Exchange Commissions, Deposit Money Banks, Non-bank Financial Institutions, Member States’ Central Banks, ECOWAS Commission, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank;
