Oversee the central accessioning and phlebotomy sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. Supervise 29 health technicians (phlebotomists) over 2 shifts, serving more than 30,000 patients annually. Verify the accuracy of all data distributed to patient care providers. Participate on the Standardization Committee, which manages the procurement of new products. Administer the Learning Management System for a department of more than 200.

Distribute assignments to facilitate smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks. Reorganize to accommodate priority changes.

Develop short- and long-range strategies to improve staff efficiency and patient flow and satisfaction.

Hire and train new team members, administer discipline, and review performance. Apprise leadership of staffing needs.

Implemented an enterprise scheduling system for the NIH phlebotomy service that helped streamline phlebotomy procedures, improve the patient experience, and increase patient satisfaction.

Supervised 6 direct reports, including 3 medical laboratory scientists, 2 phlebotomists, and a radiology technician; the team performed more than 7,500 phlebotomy procedures per year and 35,000+ laboratory tests per year.

Led the laboratory to obtain a College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation, the “gold standard” of lab credentials. Facilitated the completion of accreditation requirements by updating instrumentation, labeling, scheduling, and mailing processes.

Implemented a new specimen labeling system that reduced labeling errors 10-fold.

Redesigned the benchtop workspaces to improve ergonomic functioning and reduce repetitive motion injuries.

Handled hiring, training, assignment distribution, and performance reviews.

Purchased lab instruments, including a hematology analyzer, a urine analyzer, and chemistry analyzers.
