Project Manager (Program Manager), Energy Systems Software and Hardware

Managed multiple (as many as 8 concurrent) projects and tasks in a Program Management role with deliverables produced, in coordination with the customers’ business operational needs (requirements), on time and within budget. Routinely conducted project briefings to ABB corporate management and client management teams and directors.

Led development and the production of an enterprise software for electric power companies. This software (a SCADA-PLC-RISC control infrastructure model) managed integrated electric power generation processes, operations, risk management, market trading, and post transaction analysis (Oracle based). Extensive use of MS Project, CMM (Levels 1 to 3), PMBOK, Waterfall, and RUP methodologies, plus J2EE platforms. Successfully managed widely dispersed engineering efforts in a matrix type organization, directing up to 8 projects with over 20 project and software engineers, multi-million dollar budgets, and overall project scheduling. Project also had heavy reliance on skill in the use MS Project, and UML. This software once developed, was sold to several electric power companies for profits of $40M.

Introduced a software development life cycle (SDLC) system that, for example, successfully managed the transition of newly produced software to a standard off-the-shelf software package to streamline customer deliveries. Delivered this software to two clients early and under budget, using a structured release management procedure, resulting in the highest customer service ratings in company history. This new software integrated operational and market data, allowing electric power and electric marketing clients to exponentially improve operations, market bidding and settlement capabilities.

Developed customer UML-Use Cases for Business Operations and Analysis to specifically define and refine business software requirements. Use Cases would subsequently become part of the testing and certification for acceptance. Process successfully became institutionalized within our organization, and dramatically caused fewer contract issues at acceptance. (Also used Rational Rose, Requisite Pro).
