Behavioral Medicine Rotation: Served as a part of a
multi-disciplinary team, provided assessments for
pre-gastric bypass patients, developed and led a chronic
pain management group, led smoking cessation intake and
follow up groups (Quit Tobacco), familiarized myself with a
variety of weight management groups including the veteran's
M.O.V.E. program, assisted individuals with sleep
disorders, temporal-mandibular disorders, diabetes
management, hypertension management.
I have also developed and led educational
groups for heart health, women's health and suicide awareness.
Outpatient Mental Health Rotation:
Utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systemic Therapy,
Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Psychodrama to treat
individuals and couples from a variety of ethnic
backgrounds, sexual orientations, ages and socioeconomic
status with a variety of DSM-IV diagnoses for brief supportive and longer term therapy
Co-led a long term open ended depression support group
Developed and led a psycho-educational group for severely mentally ill veterans
Inpatient Mental Health Rotation:
Served as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop
treatment plans for individuals in acute crisis, led
psychoeducational groups bi-weekly on how to maintain
positive mental health, generated psychology assessments
for new admissions, individual brief supportive therapy as
needed for crisis stabilization, administered and
interpreted personality assessments, assisted and
interviewed a variety of seriously mentally
ill veterans, familiarized myself with residential care settings.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Rotation:
Assisted individuals from a variety of combat eras
experiencing post traumatic stress disorder, assisted
individual veterans who have experienced military sexual
trauma and childhood sexual trauma, led and co-led groups
for PTSD in the outpatient PTSD clinic, assisted in leading
groups and working with individuals in an intensive
inpatient PTSD program, assisted individuals
in anger management, coping skills and trauma processing.
In addition to the above rotations, my residency included a
year long didactic series in neuropsychology, where I
administered and interpreted a minimum of 8 full
Halstead-Reitan Batteries. I engaged in and presented
regularly scheduled cases for grand round discussions,
attended weekly didactic seminars in professional issues,
diagnostics, psychopathology, psychopharmacology,
assessment, psychotherapy, neuropathology and continuing
education. I served two rotations as chief
resident to develop my administration and leadership skills.
