—I am responsible for taking our client’s electronic files and troubleshoot and correct their files, if needed, so they can go DTP correctly. I plate all jobs and process the plates in a traditional chemical processor.

—I check for spot color separations, bleeds, transparency issues, fonts, RGB images as well as the resolution of images that are supplied.

—Using Sign Cut Pro, I work with the screen printer, and cut out the Lawn Signs we produce. Sizes vary, usually 24” x 18”. I create the signs in Adobe Illustrator, and convert the file into vector art for cutting.

—I maintain the department’s equipment’s maintenance, and ordering of all supplies.

—When needed, I design artwork for customers utilizing Adobe Creative Suite.

—Preflighting is done with Enfocus Pitstop.

—I run the ColorMax7 Digital Envelope Printer, and perform color corrections prior to running the job in Photoshop.

—Proofread as needed.

April 2010–October 2015: Proofreader

—I started proofreading in the Art Dept., proofreading the artwork our artists created, against the customer’s hard copy, or art provided by our customer. Their art has to be manipulated to print legibly. It is the proofreader’s job to mark the thin lines, opening up of small gaps, marking of misspelled words, etc. for the artist to fix the electronic file, prior to production.

—By using the AS400, I retrieve the customer’s purchase order, and assure the correct item, color and quantity are on our order traveler.

— Depending on the method of printing, silk screen or pad, the film was checked for proper emulsion (up or down), density, scratches, etc.

—4-color artwork was done as heat transfer, and I checked for registration of color, proper PMS colors, and emulsion.

—For the past year and a half, I am the sole proofreader in their Embroidery Dept., where in addition to the above responsibilities, I read the artwork of our digitizers and mark for quality control, what needs to be enlarged, fixed, opened up for the order to sew legibly.

—I do all the picture product proofs (over 3,000), and Email them to the customer, and also send an email to the customer service representative with the stitch count and size of the embroidered art.

—I am in charge of sending all E-proofs to our customers, and approvals are sent via our own in-house software to my manager and her assistant.

—I was responsible for taking our client’s electronic files and troubleshoot and correct their files, if needed, so they can go to press correctly.

—I checked for spot color separations, bleeds, transparency issues, fonts, RGB images as well as the resolution of images that are supplied.

—I created and designed per customers specifications, artwork for Brochures, Letterheads, Business Cards, Post Cards, Etc.

—My work was always proofread by another associate, and then a proof is sent either by Fax or E-mail for approval. Once the proof is approved, I then bring the PDF file into our Screen TruFlow System, and I print out a signature proof from our Epson printer, for the customer to sign off on the layout as well as the color. Once approved, I then output the plates utilizing our Dart 4300 Platesetter.

—I was responsible for all the maintenance of the equipment and upgrades. I ordered all consumables for all the equipment in my department. I did the weekly backup and archives of all our files, and have the backup on an external drive which is taken home and out of our building in case of a casualty.

—I was responsible for taking our client’s electronic files and essentially create the 1-bit TIFF files for our Creo CTP Platesetter.

—Upon receiving the files, I would pre-flight the files to check for RGB, or missing fonts, or images. I would check for overprints, knockouts, color breaks (spot or process), pagination and trapping. I’d make the necessary adjustments in color and size if needed.

—We printed mostly books and in doing so, I would check the spine size and adjust according to the number of pages and stock being used (PPI). Often it requires re-building the book cover and adjusting images to fit in the allocated spine for perfect bound books.

—I have complete working knowledge of Color, Trapping, Forms, Signatures, Press Layout Configurations and Binding Requirements needed to produce our books.

Software Used

—I worked with both Macintosh and PC platforms. All current software is used, including all Adobe software, Quark XPress, Enfocus Pitstop, Corel Draw, Flight Check, all Apogee software

(Pilot, Print Drive and Job Ticket Editor).

—Job Ticket Editor: This allowed us to build the job with Press Templates and Signatures that we create and modify using Scenic Soft Preps 4.7 software. Once built, the JTE file is sent over to Print Drive, and then soft proofed, and sent to one of our 3 proofing systems—Sherpa 2, Sherpa 43 or the ImpoProofer

(Canon Image Prograf W7200 and Print Manager); Xerox Document Scan and Make-ready. Equipment Used
