Three (3) first years working in the erection, commissioning, startup, and operation of hydroelectric projects. Paper machine installations

Project Engineer. Responsible for electrical and instrumentation design, equipment selection, installation audit, commissioning, and startup. Main equipment includes a Westinghouse electronic helper drive system, main and distribution substations, 4160 and 440 volts MCC s, refiners, pulpers, cleaning systems, steam boiler 80.000 #/hr, steam line-shaft turbine. Accuray basis weight, moisture, and caliper control. The paper mill produces 60.000 tons/year of corrugated and kraft liners from 125 to 360 gr/m2.

(1974 – 1976).

Electric and instrumentation maintenance

Maintenance Engineer. Responsible for pulp plant maintenance. The plant includes three wood chippers, twelve batches, and one continuous digester, two kraft and one semi-chemical pulp plants, and two chemical recovery systems. The maintenance crew consist of 8 supervisors, 20 electricians, 6 instrumentalists, and 32 helpers. (1976). Maintenance Superintendence

Maintenance Superintendent. Responsible for pulp and paper maintenance (mechanical, electrical, plant safety, instrumentation, warehouse and housekeeping). The maintenance group includes 6 engineers, and 78 people. (1976 – 1978) Engineering Department

Project Engineer

Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering (Design, audit, installation, commissioning and startup) in the following projects

Recovery System #2 (Evaporators, recovery boiler, and precipitator)

Electrostatic precipitators for recovery boiler # 1 and power boilers 3, 4 and 5

Bleach Plant, 180 ton-day

Thermomechanical pulp plant. Equipment includes two 14.000 HP and one 6.000 HP refiners, Foxboro I/A control system and auxiliaries.

Paper Machine # 6 was rebuilt. Complete paper machine rebuilt, electronic system replacement, new Allen Bradley PLC’s, new Siemens DC drive system, Accuray paper machine computer, Fourdrinier press section, dryers addition, dryers lubrication system, calendar, rewind, and winder. Mill produces 75.000 tons/year of fine paper grades 35 to 90 gr/ m2

Paper Machine # 4 rebuilt. New DC Drives, size press, calendar, Accuray system and infrared dryer.

Minor projects: Joy compressors, askarel transformers replacement, boilers ash handling system, water clarifier, etc.

Project Manager

Boilers instrumentation revamping. Installation of a Foxboro DCS multistation control system.

Paper Machine # 5 Acurray System.

Pulp and bleaching plant Foxboro videospec control system replacement. Project Engineer. Design, installation, commissioning, and put on service, 110 kV utility transmission line and main substation 110 – 34.5 kV, 100 Mva. Smurfit Cartón de Colombia (1989 – 1990).

06/1972 – 10/1974 CHIDRAL Central Hidroeléctrica del Río Anchicayá. Electric Audit Engineer. Alto Anchicayá hydroelectric plant, 340 Mva. Responsible for coordination and supervision of the installation, commissioning and startup of three Francis turbines 115 Mw each, three power transformers 13.8-230 kV, and auxiliary equipment.

Chief Assistance. Calima Plant (120 Mw). Responsibilities include operation, maintenance and personnel management, 32 people. Central de Anchicayá. Project Engineer, High voltage overhead transmission lines to interconnect Yumbo - 115 kV and ISA-220 kV substations. Central de Anchicayá (1971) Electric Audit Engineer. Alto Anchicayá 220 kV substation installation, commissioning, and startup. Central de Anchicayá (1971 – 1972)
