· 2002 – 2008: Taught in district 150 in Peoria, IL. Worked with students who had behavior problems, had histories of abuse, learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, Autism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety

· Summer 2007: Taught summer school at gang ridden Lincoln middle school in Peoria, IL

· Participated in a pilot program that used different teaching methods to help classrooms of 25 -30 troubled students learn better and go on to the next level

· After being observed with my teaching methods and organizational structure with the students, I was offered a teaching position at the Alternative Manual High School

· Manual High School is a school that was in the process of being completely transformed because of having the worst drop - out rates in the city due to violence, gangs, and teen pregnancies

Organizations

· 2006 – 2008: along with my wife of 14 years, volunteered at the Peoria Dream Center

· The Dream Center is located in downtown Peoria, IL. http://dreamcenterpeoria.org/

· It is a faith based outreach center that provides school supplies for children, clothes for needy families, athletics and after school programs, going into low-income parts of the neighborhood to provide support for families.

· Volunteered with the Dream Center’s Adopt a Block program who went to the nearby housing project of Taft Homes in Peoria, IL

· Came to know families, helped them fix up their homes, delivered furniture, helped students with homework, provided cookouts, games for kids, helped clean up the neighborhood, provided food during holidays, and most of all developed close relationships with families and gave love, support, prayer, and care during hard times and tragedies
