EXPERIENCE:

Morrison Community Hospital: Feb 2019-Jan 2023

Full time “utility player.” I started out working urgent care; dx, ordering images, reading images such as xrays, cat scan and tx appropriately. My daily patient load was about 20-40 with a variety of illnesses. I covered ER when needed and followed/treated patients on floor including discharging and transferring as needed for higher level of care. After about a year, patients that were seen in walk in clinic asked to establish with me. I then started becoming more of Family Practitioner. A few months later a provider in ENT was hired and requested me as his PA-C. But continued seeing my established patients. I helped with all Dr. Cody’s surgical cases as well as clinic. Examples are cleaning ears, injections, reading Audiology reports as well as going through imaging and test results with patients. This included coming up with diagnoses as well as discussing and scheduling treatment plans. I was also in charge of wound care planning and treatment of simple and complicated wounds.

TeamHealth: April 2018-April 2023 ( New group that took over contract (EPMG) in ER) per diem 6-9 shifts monthly 12hr shifts 11A-11p) I have worked at Mercy ER for +9 years helping with coverage as their ER PA-C.

I diagnosed and treated 30-45 patients daily with acute and chronic issues. I work ed independently beside 1 MD on shift. I performed physicals, reviewed labs, images and made appropriate decisions such as consulting other physicians and possibly transferring patient to other facility based on what is best for patient. I can perform procedures in ER such as but not limited to: intubation, steroid injections, Incision and drainage, chest tube insertion, casting, joint reductions, thoracentesis, central lines, regional blocks

The units combined consist of 30 beds. I worked under a supervising physician, but made my own decisions such as management and treatment of my own patients. I did all procedures and lead code situations. I have also done multiple procedures such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, chest tube care, vent settings and management, A-lines, intubations. I have done all procedures and have been trained with ultrasound technique as well. I was responsible for at least 12-15 pt in a shift. I consulted other physicians when other care is needed. I participated in a procedure in Las Vegas to improve my techniques and care for patients in critical situations.

Dx and treatment of acute and chronic conditions as well as working independently in exercising autonomy in clinical decision making. I saw about 20-30 patients in a 12hr shift, took medical hx and performed physicals, medical screening, dx and therapeutic studies. I read and evaluated labs and directed pt to the right care. Ordered and wrote scripts. Counseled and instructed pt of diet, dx, prevention, tx and normal development. Some of my procedures performed include the following: Incision/drainage, reductions in dislocations, administration of medications and injections, Advanced Cardiac support, anoscopy, gyn exams/ultrasounds, Blood gas, arthrocentesis, cast and splinting, central line, subclavian lines, debridement of burns etc, suture wounds, Foreign body removal: ears, nose, rectum, soft tissue, throat, vagina, Intubation, Lumbar puncture, tx DKA, interpretation of EKG and images, paracentesis, procedure sedations, regional blocks, slit lamp dx of rust ring etc, thoracentesis, vascular access other procedures as directed by the supervising physician.

Medical Associates/Urgent Care: 2015-2016 I took maternity leave and at that time 2 surgeons from Medical associates asked me to rejoin and help them in OR. So after 1 month of maternity leave I rejoined Medical associates and worked with Dr. Marla Vascular Surgeon and Dr. Carlson General surgeon as well as Orthopedic Dr. Colah as well as started working at there Urgent Care they built all while working per diem in ER under EPMG. My surgeon Dr. Marla was in the middle of starting new solo practice in Quad Cities but I didn't want to go. The other surgeon Dr. Carlson opted to not resign with Medical Associates.I went out looking for work and found plenty opportunities to grow and learn. Once again I worked clinics throughout the week for all 3 as well as first assisted them in surgery.
