I am a registered nurse and have been for over 27 years. I have worked in home health, hospice, psychiatric inpatient setting, as well as working for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as their expert witness in fraud and abuse trials across the United States. During a majority of my nursing profession, I have worked in administration leading companies with growth, not only their bottom-line, but also with their staff which was the most rewarding. I would like to point out that unfortunately in 2019 I had a fellow nurse report me to the Kentucky Board of Nursing for misappropriation of a controlled substance. I was never asked to leave my place of employment during that time, in fact, I was asked to continue auditing of patient's medical records and develop a system to ensure that medication orders were being transcribed correctly, and develop a check and balance system to ensure that narcotics were being administered correctly and at the end of each shift all controls were accounted for, especially "wasted" medications. The KBN fined me $500.00 and requested that I complete a few courses on medication administration due to me not logging off the Pyxis after each use. All requirements that were requested by the KBN were completed and no further action has occurred and had never in the past 27 years of being a professional registered nurse. That nurse decided to leave immediately after her report was made to the KBN.
