Brief Biography

Ernest Opoku-Agyeman is an epidemiologist and nurse/public health focused on understanding using social epidemiology to better understand health outcomes among immigrant populations, specifically from sub- Saharan Africa. He currently holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Walden University School of Health Sciences and a Master’s in Public Health from Hebrew University-Hadassah Braun School of Public Health and Community Medicine. Aside from his formal training, Dr. Opoku Agyeman’s experience in public health spans five decades; specifically, he has worked as a Technical Officer at Ghana’s Ministry of Health working on disease surveillance, survey analysis, and entomology research. Shortly after earning his MPH, he returned to Ghana to serve as an Associate Director for the Health and Temperance Department for the Adventist Health Care Services and taught in Valley View University for six years. His recently published research, which uses qualitative analysis, explores coping mechanisms for Sub-Saharan African female immigrants with breast cancer in the United States. Currently, he is a Psychiatric Nurse employed by St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington D.C. looking for academic, post- doctoral fellow, government, and industry opportunities to apply his extensive public health expertise.
