Started off at CAMC Teays Valley in the housekeeping department performing task that included sweeping, mopping, changing linens, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.
Then the opportunity to advance in my career lead me to CAMC General. At CAMC General, I worked in the Emergency Department as a Registration Clerk. My job duties included registering patients coming into the Emergency room.
Next, I took a position at CAMC Teays Valley in the Emergency Department working in Registration. Then, I applied and accepted a position in the Outpatient Registration Department. After working in the Outpatient Registration Department for three years, I applied for a position in the Scheduling Department. I have worked in the scheduling department for seven years. My daily job duties as a scheduler include working with outside doctor offices, CAMC offices, and patients to ensure they are getting their necessary outpatient procedures scheduled in a timely manner. I schedule and reschedule appointments for patients and offices. I educate patients on any preparations they may need for their procedure. I also manage the patients’ health insurance to ensure that their insurance is valid for the procedure. If there is an issue with the patients’ insurance, I refer them to the financial counselor to facilitate in the hospital receiving proper payment. I manage a system that runs the health insurance to identify the copay for the procedure, so when the patient arrives for their appointment they are aware of the copay.
