My primary objective as a Health Care Assistant is to bring comfort and ensure the relief of my patients. Heath Care Assistant (including Mental Health) – Job Role

Purpose of the Role - To maintain the highest quality of individualised care to services users within the Centre through the provision of a stimulating environment in which the emotional, social, physical and psychological needs of the individuals are met. To ensure that defined policies as laid down by Senate Nursing Bureau Limited are adhered to at all times. To act as a resource and support for the registered nurse in charge in the facility.

Key Qualifications & Responsibilities

To assist in Mental and Health Care provision in all aspects of the services users assessed needs, which include:

Personal Health, Safety and Hygiene

Maintain clean and safe environment for clients.

Assist residents with various activities of daily living, including in washing, dressing and undressing and ensure the highest standards of hygiene/personal care are maintained. (Bathes, grooms, dress and selecting appropriate clothing by clients concern and suitable weather, shaving, bowel and bladder cares, oral hygiene).

Follow patient care plan directives as recommended or instructed by registered nurse.

Change beds, tidy resident’s room and carry out light cleaning duties as required. Assist residents with their toileting needs, including continence promotion. Empty toileting aids, where appropriate.

Performed regular homemaking chores, such as doing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, doing laundry, and cleaning patient medical equipment.

Remind of aids used by client – Hearing aid with impute bag, wearing glasses, taking

Help maintain a safe environment for staff, residents and visitors, through an awareness and application of health and safety policies.

Contribute to movement and mobilization of residents to maximise their physical wellbeing and comfort. Assist residents with mobility where appropriate and ensure correct aids are used at all times.

Maintain privacy and confidentiality of clients and corporate information and discuss only with appropriate personnel.

Errands and assistance to medical appointments with supervision and companionship.

Following client’s care plan as directed for their mobility.

Utilizing mechanical aids such as specialty bed with air mattress, lazy boy, wheelchairs, stretches, electric chairs to transport clients and provide assistance with lifting using belts/hoisting-by full hoist and standing hoist. Transforming of clients following established lifting/safety techniques.

Manual Handling

Treat residents as individuals and respect their preferences and choices as far as possible.

Help residents to achieve independence where possible.

Techniques of using sliding sheet/board to position the client.

Maintain clean and safe environment for clients, staffs, families and visitors.

Encourage and emphasize to use hazards/ fire code at all times.

Liaise with residents’ relatives to ensure clients have sufficient clothes, personal toiletries etc.

Attend appropriate training programmes/course as available, or as deemed necessary by senior nursing staff, to further existing knowledge.

Act at all times in a professional manner to visitors, staff and residents within the Centre and be a team player.

Bring to the attention of the Management any deficits noted within the unit.
