Inpatient Services offered include maternity services both antepartum and postpartum Units and labor ward, pediatric ward, Medical ward both female and male, surgical Units,gynecological Units, New Born Unit among others two working theatre and 24 hours working laboratory and pharmacy.
Roles and Responsibilities
.Providing nursing care and management to the patients, providing supervision, guidance and direction to junior nurses to ensure that optimal care is provided to meet the desired positive patients outcomes and experiences.
.Counsel and prepare mother for labor, childbirth and postpartum. Monitor and manage pregnant mother during labor and ensure timely intervention in case of emergency .provide care for mother and new –born after birth.
.Assessing patients and clients and establishing health care need; planning and implanting nursing care intervention based on patients /clients health need; providing health education and counselling on identified health and social economic needs,
.Administering medications, conducting frequent medical examination, Recording detailed medical histories, Monitoring heart rate and blood pressure, perform diagnostic tests, operate medical equipment, draw blood and admit /discharge according to physician order.
.Accountable for the delivery of safe, effective,direct and indirect,patient –continuum of perioperative unit; operating room; post anesthesia care unit ;sterile processing department
.setting up the operating room for the patient, ensuring all the tools are sterile and ready to go, handing tools to the doctor during the surgery,and perform other duties inside the surgical room.
Admission of the patient in the unit, Comprehensive history taking and physical examination
. Vital sign observation to include temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen insertion of intravenous cannula as indicated
. Insertion of intravenous cannula as indicated
. Medication administration using safe medication practices via various routes to include parenteral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular and intravenous
. Administration of blood and blood products, close monitoring of vital signs monitoring of blood glucose level
. Administration of intravenous fluids as prescribed
. Collection of specimen for specific tests such as urine drainage site using aseptic techniques
. Administration of oxygen as prescribed
. Post-operative wounds and chest tube drainage site using aseptic technique and bladder irrigation.
. Documentation of procedures done and nursing care outcomes
. Collaboration with other health care workers to improve patient outcome
