● On the client side the application has two components one in VB3.0 as the user

● front end and one in Visual C++ 1.5 as the OLE 2.0 Automation Server Component. On the server side there is a DDE Server program which communicates with SQL Server through extended Stored Procedures to send network messages to client programs to update the screens whenever there is a database change.

● As part of the team designed and implemented a Security VBX for VB 3.0 using VB 3.0 API which controls the accessibility of fields in a form based on the user login.

● The information update/delete/view etc. operations are hence secured by the VBX and reduces a lot of VB code overhead.

● Designed and implemented the network DDE server architecture.

● This consists of two components: a client side VBX and a server side DDE server program.

● Whenever a client application is loaded the VBX registers the application with the server to receive database change messages which it passes to the development environment in VB/VC as an event.

● The developer can use this event to update the screen or re-query the database or display a message.
