Quality Control / Production Associate
July 1989 – 1991
At this time, we had very few associates so we all basically helped out everywhere needed. I made shell cores, measured them, filed them and then took those shell cores to the NDC platform where I casted parts in the NDC casting machines.
From there the castings went to a transfer finish line where the risers and gates were cut, and the sand was shaken out.
Then the parts were stacked into T-6 baskets, went into the T-6 Heat treatment process.
When heat treatment process was completed, I checked the hardness and moved parts over to the final inspection table.
I hand wrote all the work instructions that were called operation standards at that time, and trained other associates what to inspect for. (with Japanese specialist, Shiro Sakaguchi’s help)
The parts were then shipped over to the machining department.
I loaded the parts into the machine and went to the other end to remove machined part from the machine.
I performed machining checks such as plug gages, thread gages, surf tester, and spring check. Because at that time we had a big problem with broken EGR’s.
