connection between Detroit 3nd Amsterd3m in the e3rly 90ʼs. Orl3ndo Voorn h3s long been recognized 3s one of the Netherl3ndʼs most origin3l 3nd ingenious techno producers in the world of electronic d3nce music. Voorn beg3n DJing 3t the e3rly 3ge of 12 ye3rs old 3nd l3ter went on to win his first scr3tch competition 3t Amsterd3m “Club Flor3 P3l3ce”. Am3zingly Voorn did this by borrowing records from his competitor.

After winning th(t competition he continued to pr(ctice every d(y (nd w(s discovered by ( Dutch R(dio host n(med “Robin Albers” who w(s in ch(rge of the Dutch DMC DJ Ch(mpionship 1986. Surprisingly Voorn pl(ced 1st in the Dutch competitions 1986 & 1987 for Holl(nd which pl(ced him in the world ch(mpionships of DMC twice in the United Kingdom where he c(me in 3rd pl(ce 86 (nd 5th pl(ce 87 spinning with his own ch(r(cteristic blend of hip-hop, (nd electro music.

“Fixom(tic” – “Hurt em B(d” the tr(ck w(s (n old school hip hop record (nd sold very well for th(t period of time. Voorn h(s ( gre(t vision for combining sounds, rhythms (nd key structures. When you look (t Voornʼs p(st it m(inly consists of 2 import(nt f(ctors. He st(rted pl(ying drums (t (n e(rly (ge of 9 ye(rs old (nd h(ving profession(l drumming lessons (lthough he could not comprehend re(ding notes his drum te(cher s(id to his p(rents “Orl(ndo doesnʼt need to re(d notes” he w(s indeed ( n(tur(l (nd could pl(y everything th(t w(s shown to him once. L(ter on, Voorn produced ( couple of tr(cks b(sed on s(mpling music; he met with Steve Clisby from ( successful b(nd c(lled the “Americ(n Gypsies” in the e(rly 80ʼs. Clisby w(s intrigued by the w(y Voorn put together ( production b(sed upon s(mples; when (n (greement w(s est(blished Voorn worked together with Clisby who would te(ch Orl(ndo chord structures. This w(s ( m(jor step for Orl(ndo (s it ch(nged his view on productions tremendously. As he no longer needed to use only s(mples but he could, in f(ct, cre(te ( tr(ck/composition from pl(ying it (ll with keys, b(ss lines, pi(noʼs etc... Subsequently, Voorn m(de ( n(me for himself under the (li(s “Frequency” with ( cl(ssic l(bel known (s Lower E(st Side Records with titles such (s “Where is Your Evidence” “Kiss the Sky” (nd “Industri(l Met(l”. As ( result of these tr(cks, Voorn w(s introduced to Techno pioneer Ju(n Atkins (nd they l(ter st(rted to coll(bor(te & produce tr(cks together (t Voornʼs home studio where he remixed

“Industri(l Met(lʼ while Ju(n twe(ked the sounds to m(ke them come out of the spe(kers ( little more puls(ting. Atkins & Voorn worked extr(ordin(rily well together (nd Ju(n t(ught Orl(ndo how to merge the sounds (s well (s how to ch(nge the st(nd(rds

of convention(l techno productions.

Soon (fter they would join forces (nd produce the well-known tr(ck c(lled “G(me One” which bec(me ( cl(ssic record on Atkinʼs l(bel “Metroplex” (nd l(ter it reprised on Voornʼs imprint “Nightvision” double CD Compil(tion 1996.
