Jamal Abdul Nasser Street and Jahra Road are major arterial corridors running through the downtown area of Kuwait City In an effort to upgrade the roads into major expressways, Kuwait's Ministry of Public Works retained The Louis Berger Group (LBG), in association with Pan Arab Consulting Engineers, to manage the design and construction of the ambitious $2 billion improvement project. Kuwait’s public-works ministry in February signed an $870-million design-bid-build contract with a European-led consortium to upgrade more than 16 kilometers of Jamal Abdul Nasser Street.
Over 16 Km of elevated mainline road along Jamal Nasser Street Jahra Road, Sabah Hospital Road, Ghazali Street and Airport Road The project contains about 800,000 sq.m of elevated highway with the majority of viaduct length to be formed from precast segments. Due to site constraints the mainline segmental viaducts are from twin independent single cell boxes which are interconnected by transverse concrete diaphragms at pier locations. The twin boxes girders are supported by single piers located in the central median of the grade road system. Different size box segments carry twin 4 lane carriageways, twin 3 lane carriageways and twin 2 lane carriageways, balanced cantilever hollow girders.
