Smart Grid and Advanced Metering Technology class:

Conducted research and extensive reading on the Smart Grid, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Information Management Systems, and Demand-side Management.

Control Systems and Building Automation class:

Conducted research on Building Automation Systems (BAS) and their use in controlling Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) and their benefits in addressing the variables of Temperature, Humidity, Pressure, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), and Demand-Controlled Ventilation (DCV).

Advanced Building Systems class:

Conducted research on the electricity consumption of homes, in kWh, and ways to reduce the consumption through the use of occupancy sensors, successfully reducing the payback period of the project while increasing annual savings.

Gained considerable knowledge on Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) in homes and buildings. Introduced to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and their standards, including 135, 55, 62.1, and 90.1.

Energy Industry Landscape class:

Conducted research on the electricity system value chain, including the generation, transmission, and retail of electricity alongside the energy supply mix. Gained considerable knowledge of energy codes and standards, including on SB-12 code for housing and SB-10 for buildings (Ontario Building Code), and of energy certifications, including Energy Star, EnerGuide, R-2000, and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications.
