Objective

I am motivated to help individuals and families understand, work through, and manage their mental health issues. I will be part of the process to bridge the gap between the patient and treatment. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) I will provide treatment at the full capacity of my licensure. In a short amount of time, the PMHNP-APRN must be able to sit with a patient and sufficiently gain a person’s trust so that they are willing to share personal aspects; in many cases, things which they have intended to keep hidden most of their life. As a PMHNP-APRN I will continue to gain skills and experience which allow me to provide the best treatment for my patients. I further intend to be active in the community and promote mental health treatment, access, and support. I will advocate for those individuals who need such help. Education

Wilkes University 2017- 2019 — I have earned a Master’s Degree from the Wilkes University Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. Wilkes is a pro-active university and teaches current best practice philosophies and guidelines. The PMHNP program at Wilkes University is a rigorous yet rewarding program. The accredited PMHNP program requires the ability to manage time, self-assess one’s own progress, and communicate with the faculty. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-APRN

Behavioral Health Services of Florida October 2021- Current As an Out-Patient provider I assess, diagnose, educate, prescribe, and manage care for individuals of all ages. Out-Patient care requires working with community resources including public schools, churches, physicians, rehab treatments and more. 5 Palms March 2020- August 2022

This 35 bed mental health hospital provides inpatient care for dual diagnosis individuals. As the PMHNP-APRN I diagnosed, prescribed, and managed medications. Other duties included leading group education and discussion. I also participated in the treatment team planning. Sharing and collaborating with nurses, administrators, therapists, and behavioral techs proved to be essential in best practice outcomes.

Centurion Health June 2020 – May 2021

The Volusia County Jail contracts mental health care through Centurion. As the PMHNP I work with the mental health counselors, social workers, medical team, and security staff to ensure the best practice treatment possible is offered to the inmates. The facility houses 1,400 or more inmates and has a psychiatric unit and several levels of psychiatric step-down units. Although conditions and safety do not permit the most therapeutic environment, there is perhaps no other scenario that re-enforces the need for and success that can come through teamwork. True Health January 2020 – March 2020

True Health is a community resource. I assessed, diagnosed, and treated mental illness. I performed the mental status exam (MSE) and the Psychiatric Evaluation and methodically documented in the patient’s chart. I used focused counseling to address clinical mental Health issues with the patient.

Managing medication and continual monitoring of the effect of treatment was a complicated and important aspect of my care of our patients. Collaboration with the Mental Health counselors, outreach social workers, and the other members of our team was necessary for the best care of the patient.

Registered Nurse June 2014- Dec 2019

As an ICU nurse at Advent Health Palm Coast Hospital, I was part of a strong team. I used critical thinking and problem solving skills. During my time as an ICU nurse, we did not have the luxury of having an MD on the unit after 6pm. Although demanding, I had the privilege to work with a great team which assisted me in learning critical care. It was not unusual to run a code blue without a doctor on the floor.

My care manager nurse position allowed me to interface with patients and help guide them in their treatment during and after hospital care. In the care management role I became involved in treatment planning, needs, and resources after discharge. Actively listening to the patient is the most essential skill I used.

The position of Utilization Review (UR) nurse provided me with strong charting skills. I recognize the importance of charting that reflects why the patient is being treated and what the plan is. As part of the UR team in care management, I helped develop procedures. I wrote a UR policy manual which was a reference and “how to” resource guide that was used for many years.

Substance Abuse Counselor/ Case Manager 2010- 2012 Working as a substance abuse counselor with the substance abuse treatment team helped me to further enhance my people skills. While employed with SMA I learned more about how addiction affects thinking. I have attended countless pre-trial meetings, courtroom hearings, and sentences. One of the most inspiring events I have been a part of is when a judge, a defense attorney, a prosecutor, a parole officer and several community liaisons such as myself could set aside professional motives and discuss the best possible outcome for the client. Pilot 2006- 2009

Southern Eagle Aviation provided me the opportunity to work in administration as well as in the field. The pilot in command is the official and legal authority of the aircraft, responsible for and capable of making all decisions while the plane is operating. Whether sharing airspace with other aircraft, locating lost aircraft, managing emergencies inflight, or simply teaching a student how to preflight the plane, I have learned that there is no substitute for strong communication, collaboration, and cooperation. These are the fundamentals for which successful outcomes in all aspects of life are built upon. Additionally, I have learned that the most successful method of managing a crisis is prevention. As a flight instructor, I wrote and delivered many lessons privately and publicly. I have learned communication involves listening more than speaking. Other Relevant Experiences

Horizon House - Inpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Center. Working as a human services tech provided me with ground floor basic exposure and training to the withdrawal and recovery process.

Heritage School- Behavioral Treatment Center. Working as a counselor for youth between the ages of 8 and 18 promoted assessment and counseling skills for mentally and emotionally unstable youth. The school is an in-patient facility where behavioral therapy takes place over periods of months to years.

Volunteer Experiences

Prior to my university studies, I served a 2 year full time mission for my church. Through this opportunity I gained teaching, counseling, and compassionate attributes. Having the responsibility to pay for the mission myself taught me to appreciate and value self reliance. From 2014 through 2020, I served as the Bishop, which has given me far more than I have provided. In this calling I assisted individuals and families with spiritual, economic, and even physical needs. I would oversee 6 or more committees, supervise multiple classes, approve the finances and welfare assistance, and communicate with the community. I routinely met with local county and city officials to coordinate hurricane clean up work parties. During the last several years we organized thousands of hours of volunteer work from hundreds of individuals for needs in our local county just for the hurricanes alone. References
