Dear Hiring Team,

I am ready to join the Arc of the Piedmont!

I am seeking a position where I can apply my extensive teaching and counseling experience, my special education training, and incorporate my art/ music background to bring an enriching perspective wherever I go.

I wish to contribute in a meaningful way to improving the quality of life in our community and help people create positive change in their lives.

Since 1990, I have worked with children and adults in a variety of teaching and counseling positions, and I have many skills beyond teaching, including cooking and photography. I have been an administrative assistant for a busy photography business and a state organization that interfaces with many agencies and requires close attention to detail. In this position I have filed and archived years of paperwork in the last 16 months. I have been doing data entry, documentation, attending zoom and in person meetings, and handling confidential information. I am trained in conscious movement facilitation with dancingfreedom.com and have years of mindfulness practice as my foundation for remaining focused, calm, and respectful no matter the situation.

I worked as a counselor with former prisoners at Piedmont House and coached them re: employment, pursuing higher education, and encouraging their sobriety. I worked as a rehab aide at a nursing home and advocated for residents when they needed better care. I have taught and assisted in many subjects in public schools since 1992

(Albemarle Dr. Daphne Keiser contact and Charlottesville (Maria Lewis in HR), including English, French, Spanish, ESL, art, music, and photography. I have extensive Special Education experience from pre-K to adult and am comfortable leading groups or working one on one.

I have strong interest in ESL, mentoring at-risk teens and adults with complex challenges, and helping translate for parents with language barriers.

I am a natural networker/ connector. I am endlessly energetic and creative, and relentlessly positive, while being strong enough to enforce boundaries and rules and speak up when necessary. I have a big vision for myself and am committed to following the guidance of supervisors. I have CPR/ First Aid/MAT training/ certification. I have trained in MANDT and wish to take advantage of further trainings (e.g. QMHP-T).

I am ready to sink my roots and work hard as a member of an outstanding and mutually respectful team, bringing my vibrant multicultural life and the full scope of my professional experience with me to contribute to a safe and enriching community.

Thank you for considering me!
