Additional Accomplishments include:

* Served as chief interpreter at international conferences covering political, economic, social, technical, and scientific matters, leading and giving professional guidance to other interpreters assigned to a conference while participating as an interpreter as well during the event.

* Provided simultaneous interpretations and completed translations for difficult and often highly sensitive discussions and written materials for the US Army and other local Government Agencies. All discussions demonstrated ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances, difficult subjects, highly emotional situations, and heated discussions. All of this is accomplished thanks to an ability to adjust to a myriad of situations on the spot, communicate clearly, and continue to translate/interpret without missing a beat in order to not disrupt the flow of communications between the parties involved. Examples of Specific Areas:

Education. Translations of education records, and interpreting discussions between parents and education officials about: student behavior, progress reports, and training/educational techniques for students with special needs..

Legal. Translations of legal documents and interpreting consecutive and simultaneous discussions between attorneys and defendants during legal settlement meetings, interviews, depositions, and discussions of various types of cases, for example: adoption proceedings, doctor/patient discussions of serious and life threatening medical conditions, and legal dispositions. Expertly handled subject that were brought up unexpectedly on which the interpreter has not been briefed. On each occasion, I was able to adjust my interpretations and be able to communicate immediately, so as not to disrupt the flow of communication between the principals.

Medical. Performed translation and interpretation services between physicians and hospitalized patients. Translated technical medical terms and complex procedures into Spanish, along with interpreting the physician’s discussion of medical treatments and, many times notifications of mortal illnesses. Provided all interpretations with tact, dignity, and compassion.

* Mastery of my Spanish has been recognized as to be of a high caliber and I am considered an expert within the organization. Frequently identified as principal, or “go to” translator for senior, high-level projects.

*Routinely provided oversight and direction to less-experienced interpreters/translators on workload, equipment and techniques.

*Routinely performed research and analysis of foreign language (Spanish) reference materials, documents, and regulations to gain a deeper background into the history, culture, and political situation of each assigned project. This research both assisted me with understanding the perspectives/motivations of the participants, but also to find the correct terms and gain understanding of the nature of the material to be translated.

* My technique was impeccable while interpreting in both the consecutively and simultaneous modes accomplishing this with ease, “smooth” and intelligent” style, and voice/diction compatible with public speaking and excellent content understanding.

* I have consistently and routinely demonstrated excellent physical and mental stamina while performing interpretations in shifts lasting 3-4 hours, in multi-day conferences.

* I possess personal, in-depth knowledge of the history and culture of many Latin American countries and their history, culture, and current political conditions. I use this knowledge and personal experience to effectively translate and convey the accurate intention of documents as well as interpreting the meanings of Spanish-language conversations to convey the true meaning in a culturally sensitive way.

* I routinely translated a wide variety of documents, to include technical, legal, medical, and scientific documents and records. Examples of documents translated included immigration documents, medical records, educational transcripts and interview records, etc for senior officials, attorneys, educators, and civil authorities.

* Accuracy of translated documents was critical as educational assignment, legal decisions, medical treatment options, and immigration approvals were dependent on quality and accuracy of translated documents.

*Performed extensive research (on-line, contacting subject matter experts, and official manuals) to best prepare for interpretation and translation assignments. Gathered, researched and reviewed unique technical terminology to provide exact language and precise translations. Example of my experience: Translation of US Army and Air Force maintenance and training manuals.

*Prior to interpreting for conferences or high-level meetings, performed extensive research about the organization’s mission, products, objectives, and significant accomplishments. For example: Studied training military manuals prior to interpreting and translating for a three-day Army Medical Training Conference.

* Reviewed the translated documents, produced by myself and subordinate translators, making sure they were accurate and complete.

* Routinely translated assignments without supervision, which allowed me considerable latitude and personal judgment in selecting or recommending material to achieve excellent results.

* Demonstrated daily mastery of techniques in interpreting both simultaneously and consecutively, with ease, excellent style, and voice/diction compatible with public speaking.

*Demonstrated outstanding skill in writing in both English and Spanish languages, permitting me to produce documents of such high quality that they were suitable for publication or signatures for court officials.

*Used the expertise and knowledge accumulated through formal education, research, prior assignments, and from being born and raised in Mexico to exercise great judgment in determining the perfect source of information needed for translating, and in deciding which related reference material applied to a particular subject matter. Also, all of this was important in making the correct decision in determining which word to use best on a given sentence, according to culture, context, and content, without embellishing or changing the meaning of what was said.

* Attained knowledge of local and international conference organizational procedures, including the technical aspects involved in the use of systems of audio, in the interpreting practices, and in the guidelines of conduct needed by language interpreting personnel, conference organizers, speakers, staff, general public and other participants.

* Routinely and consistently performed independently, demonstrating the ability to conduct the task at hand, as sole interpreter or as a part of a team, at meetings and events. All of this achieved through the use of huge initiative, professionalism and enthusiasm while handling administrative and logistic preparations, and then, delivering a perfectly timed and well performed assignment.
