• Perform a variety of technical and administrative support services and tasks providing timely, reliable, and accurate information in response to inquiries from the public. Research crime and suspect information as requested by law enforcement officers, detectives, and other agencies investigating criminal activity. Process a wide variety of records, logs, court documents, and other paperwork.

• Read, code, interpret, index, and enter police incident reports into automated records system; check for accuracy and makes corrections as needed. Evaluate priority crime codes for state mandated purposes.

• Process criminal history background checks on individuals, property, and vehicles according to state, federal, and local laws. Obtain and provide information as required by law enforcement and other appropriate agencies.

• Utilize the ACCESS terminal that is connected to the Department of Licensing (DOL), Washington State Crime Information Center (WACIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer networks to retrieve information about individuals while adhering to and conforming to NCIC and WACIC validating procedures.

• Enter, confirm, update, and cancel information regarding missing persons, stolen and impounded vehicles, vessels, warrants, weapons, other property, and protection/anti-harassment orders. Monitor and respond to incoming messages, including ten-minute hit confirmation requests from law enforcement agencies nationwide. Validate files by retrieving, checking, modifying, and storing previously completed but un- cleared files. File and retrieve inactive or archived records. Destroy, expunge, and seal various police records and documents in accordance with state and federal laws and guidelines.

• Conduct electronic searches on the ACCESS network and local computers for concealed pistol licenses. Compile concealed pistol license data and balance monies collected from applicants for transmittal of remittance to the Washington State Department of Licensing, Firearms Section.

• Compile summaries of individual law enforcement and arrest reports; prepare statistical data for Uniform Crime Reports as required by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

• Interact with irate and angry citizens at the front counter and on the telephone. Screens complaints and refers to appropriate staff.

• Provide coverage for the front counter which typically includes providing information from department records, assisting with accident report forms, fingerprinting, issuing concealed pistol licenses and collecting fees. Write police reports.

• Assist in the training, orientation, and job direction of staff, students, volunteers, or part-time employees.
