Responsibilities undertaken in all the above Clinics;
Occupational Health
•Medical surveillance e.g. Pre-employment, annual and exit examinations to determine employees fitness of the job applied for.
•Planning, organising and co-ordinating all activities at the Centres consisting of X-ray department, vision screening, audio testing, nursing staff, clerks and cleaners.
•Doing lung functions and physical examinations
•Organising ongoing health programmes and advice workers of various risks and hazards in the workplace, employee assistance programme promoting Industrial relations.
•Assisting management arranging environmental monitoring to identify possible excessive exposure to hazardous substances as required by OHS Act. Plan periodical programmes for monitoring of such employees, liaison with the Occupational Medical Practitioner and referrals to outside doctors and clinics as needed.
•Assisting with risk assessment as required by section 8(d) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993, (Act No. 85 of 1993) and regulation 5 of the Hazardous Chemical Substance Regulation of the OHS Act.
•Doing plant inspections and assisting in writing man job specifications
•I have set up and run Occupational Health Clinic from scratch at Rand Water ( 780 employees) and Leeudoorn Gold Mine( 9000 employees)
•Monthly visits to all outside depots (Rand Water) to do inspections, medical exams, health education, Hazard Identification and problem case follow-ups (hypertension, diabetics ect.)
•Doing and distributing of all monthly, bi-annual and annual statistics.
•Counselling, education and training of staff.
•Control and ordering of stocks.
•Treatment of injuries on duty.
•Submission and control of all Occupational diseases and injuries.
•Taking of blood for biological monitoring.
•Co-ordinating Peer Educators who are represented and operative in various depots and plants.
