I completed phase 3 and 4 of the Colorado State Board of Nursing application process and have written for candidacy status for NLNAC. I have organized and led the nursing faculty in a new direction of Hybrid course development for program cost savings.
I was selected for my knowledge and leadership and served on the Institute of Medicine Nursing Workforce Taskforce to set the priority objectives for nursing legislators and nursing education for NC. These objectives are now incorporated throughout the North Carolina Board of Nursing Strategic Plan and the NC Center for Nursing Strategic Plan. They are being utilized as priorities for funding by the NC General Assembly and the NCCCS.
Served on the North Carolina Board of Nursing, a state wide elected position for my leadership and articulation and collaborative skills, 2004-2008. Finally, I served as the NC delegate to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing in Utah in August 2006, voting to establishing a National Strategic plan, approving the NCLEX test plan blue print, and participating in the discussion of the critical nursing shortage facing the nation.
Sought and obtained initial 5 year accreditation from ACEN for Charter College Associate Degree Nursing program. Wrote the candidacy, self- study and follow up reports as needed.
Attitude and Work Ethic
Service and sacrifice to achieve the goals of the college and nursing program have been demonstrated. I believe in doing what is necessary for the organization to participate and compete for grant applications, new program applications, or in attending community service opportunities and functions to represent the organization. I believe in modeling professionalism, and have always given 110% to the students, my peers and staff in the meeting of our mission and vision. Nursing should be administered safely and effectively.
Curriculum Development, Assessment and Program Review
Designed and developed the current Associate Degree Nursing curriculum for Brunswick Community College and Colorado Technical University with the help of others as editors and contributors. Revised curriculum from 121 hours to 108 hours for Charter College. Established Total Program Evaluation plans for the Practical and Associate Degree Nursing programs and new tools to help meet the new standards: A Faculty Course evaluation tool, and Course Seminar Summary Tool. Rewrote curriculum to meet ACEN criteria.
Employment Recruitment Retention and Development
Having Served on the nursing recruitment and hiring committee of the more than fifty part time and the additional fulltime faculty hired for the Nursing Programs as well as mentored and supervised the new faculty I understand the leadership needed to guide and nurture young faculty into the expert educators needed to develop the future workforce of tomorrow. I believe in utilizing a shared governance approach to motivate and achieve necessary goals and an orientation program for new faculty. I am experienced in writing and executing contracts and performance appraisals. I am known for usually achieving WIN- WIN resolutions, such as the use of Hybrid clinical hours (utilization of virtual clinical) in courses to reduce part-time contract hours.
Student Recruitment Retention and Development
Faculty should be mentored to believe that using merit based admission means that we admit students identified with the necessary skills to be successful in the program. With this special selection of student cohorts comes great responsibility. We as faculty have now admitted future peers, or future professionals when discussing the health sciences. We must put into place strategies, and resources to assist the students to accept their responsibilities in the learning process and facilitate their success. We cannot forget they, the students are the reason we are here. With over 20 years of experience, I have dealt with student dismissals. appeals, readmissions, redirections, and student transfers. I believe in all of these the student’s goals and best interest must be a priority as well as the best interest of the college.
Budget Accountability and Responsibility
I am experienced with budget forecasting, tracking expenditures grant writing, in kind gifts and donations, fund raising, requisitions and inventory control. Experienced with student fees, course attachment, and Board of Trustee approval process, County Budget Process and Equipment Request Processes. Prepared and submitted new Budget process forms for the nursing department for 2006-2007. Spring 2007 I chaired a committee to raise and endow a 15,000 scholarship in memory of my mentor, the former Director of Nursing and Allied Health, Connie B. Milliken. We raised over $ 15,000.00 after expenses. I believe in utilizing my advisory board and stakeholders to assist in guiding budget and planning requests to assure that program development is going in the right direction to meet workforce community driven needs.
