Plant Manager/Equipment Operator: As the Tallahassee Plant Manager, I am responsible for ensuring timely and accurate submission of all paperwork, truck reports and receipts for each truck and daily driver logs, pre and post trip inspection reports, etc. to our Jacksonville office. Reconciliation of credit card statements and receipts is required monthly by a predetermined date, as well as any employee paperwork for discipline, praise, requests for leave, submittal of any vacation requests. Coordination of services between the Jacksonville dispatch office, funeral homes and the cemetery Sexton, is required to ensure proper location, date and time of the service to be performed. Generally, once dispatch provides the service request, all communication from that point is between the Funeral Director, Sexton and myself. I contact the appropriate Sexton, based on the cemetery, to verify the correct plot and gravesite is marked in relation to the work order. At times, I communicate directly with the family, relating to military and honor guard services for all branches of military, in addition to services for non-military members, and law enforcement. This is done with the utmost care and respect for the deceased and their family. In the performance of my duties, I drive various types of trucks to include a Flatbed Rail truck, dump truck and trailer, and semi tractor truck and trailer to haul equipment, most of which require a CDL. It is my responsibility to move necessary equipment to the predetermined location to ensure that the gravesite is set up prior to the date and time of funeral services. I operate a tractor with backhoe attachment to dig the gravesite to specifications given by the funeral home and requirements of the specific cemetery. I utilize techniques designed to prevent damage to nearby gravesites and ensure the least amount of disturbance to all gravesites. Some locations require on the spot fabrication of tools to safely perform the duties necessary to complete the requested service. Additionally, I exhume remains when requested by family or local law enforcement. It is also my responsibility to return and set the slabs once the earth settled on the gravesite. I move, set and reset headstones. After the grave is dug, I operate the vault setter and casket lowering device, and in a typical service, my team and I set up the appropriate number of tents, grass carpeting and chairs with and without chair covers, according to specifications of the funeral home performing the services. If needed, I assist law enforcement in the direction of traffic and I hold a traffic maintenance certification. It is my responsibility to coordinate with the Funeral Director and local law enforcement to determine what, if anything, I can do for assistance. When needed, I assist family with entrance and exit of the service area. If the family does not or chooses not to have pall bearers, I assist in unloading and placing the casket and flowers onto the device for the service. I am responsible for coordinating when each service site is dug in conjunction with the service date to ensure that the hole is not open for a long period of time before the service, usually no more than 2 days for safety reasons. This must be coordinated very carefully to allow crews to complete services and close gravesites, while ensuring the digs are done timely and vaults are delivered to funeral homes that request and purchase vaults.
