EXPERIENCE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Wabtec Corporation in Erie, PA. (Locomotive building and re-building)

Contractor: Design Engineer (01/2022 - 03/2022)

Made 3D Siemens NX Drawings and parts lists with Team-center of electrical control cabinets for arrangement of panel equipment such as heavy duty contactors and transformers to control on-board diesel engine powered electric generators.

Kulicke and Soffa Industries Inc. Fort Washington, PA. (High volume manufacturing machines that produce semiconductor components using very high speed linear magnet bars and motor drives guided by linear rail bearings).

Contractor: Advanced Resources Engineer (10/2020 – 3/2021)

Created Work Instruction documents for use by assembly technicians to quickly assemble the machines. The documents are composed in Excel using screenshots of assembly drawings that were made with Siemens NX, and photographs, and presented in a standard format with all data being saved into Team-center.

Mack Trucks, Macungie, PA. (Heavy Truck Manufacturing and Assembly)

Contractor: Tooling and Fixture Design Engineer and Project Manager, (11/2016 – 8/9/2019)

Managed multiple assignments to build new vehicle and engine assembly line stations at the Mack final

assembly facility in Macungie, PA.

Researched and wrote requests for quotations to purchase capital equipment and to have machined parts made for assembly according to supplied drawings and to have load tested.

Conceptual designing and making animated presentations using Autodesk Inventor to make tooling and

fixtures for the assembly of truck cabs, engines and truck chassis. Lifting tools were designed for simplicity and low mass. Design & build projects as follows:

• Improvements to chassis line dollies to make them more durable and stable.

• Lifting tools and transport carts for batteries, clutches, wiring harnesses, alternators, and starters.

• Sheet metal cradles to exactly fit complicated truck transmissions for transporting on conveyors.

• Cutting machines for large diameter reinforced hose that leaves no debris inside the hose.

• Tool to rotate engine crankshafts with a servo gear motor for indexing the flywheel mounting bolt positions.

The improved design of this indexing tool cost $50,000.00 less than the previous design. All lifting tools designed in-house were FEA stress analyzed on Inventor and load tested by independent laboratories.

•New assembly line to groom engines. Designed custom AGV’s and new fixtures for end of arm tooling of ABB robot arms. ABB robot trained and certified at ABB in Auburn Hills Mi.

Parker Hannifin Corporation, Fluid Connectors Group, Precision Rebuilding Div., Reading, PA.

(Hydraulic Hose Manufacturing Machinery & Hydraulic Hose Impulse Test Stand Mfg.)

Contractor: Mechanical Design Engineer and Project Manager, (06/2012 – 03/2016)

Managed multiple assignments to build new large and small machinery for use in Parker Hannifin using

Autodesk Inventor with the “tube & pipe” design feature

Designed and managed the projects as follows:

•A new drive system with multiple small gear-motors to replace a single large gear-motor & drive-shaft

system on a machine that makes spiral wire-wrapped hydraulic hose.

•A new machine that tests large hydraulic hose in an explosion proof test chamber. The machine tests the hose samples according to industry standards with high internal pressure impulses produced by a 150 HP hydraulic pump and pressure intensifiers while bend-flexing the hoses until failure with an innovative 40 HP orbiting / flexing machine.

•A new large, but low inertia, high speed rotating machine for wrapping hydraulic hose with a delicate material in a wire-reinforced hydraulic hose manufacturing line. Rotational moment of inertia and FEA stress analysis was done with Autodesk Inventor.

•Product Design of a work cell to be installed worldwide for workers to assemble hydraulic hoses with fluid connectors with zero defects. The work cell contains PLC controlled servo motors to: cut the hose to length, verify length of hose with encoder wheel, drive linear actuators to position the fittings and drive the hose into the fittings while monitoring motor amperage to verify hose insertion, a vision system, an oven for heat shrinking hose end caps and data collection software to record quality verification measurements in a database.

WILLIAM F. KEANE 3

Shalmet Corporation, (Carpenter Steel), Reading, PA. (Alloy Steel Bar & Tube Mfg.)

Contractor: Design Engineer, (08/2011 – 02/2012)

Designed steel mill equipment using AutoCAD & Inventor. Designed a machine to automate the loading and unloading of heavy steel bars into a lathe to turn bars. This machine consisted of a large tilting table with hydraulic motor driven conveyors that lift and transport 25,000 pounds of steel bars and load each bar into a roller conveyor that brings the bar into and out of the lathe. Drew and detailed assemblies, parts and large weldments in 2-D and 3-D, using standard welding symbols, finishing symbols and geometric tolerancing.

Northern Systems, Phoenixville, PA. (New Product Ventures)

Contract Design Engineer (2010 -2011)
