Re: Application for internship

Greetings to whom it may concern

I am writing to express my interest in any internship/learnership/training or job shadowing programs within your firm, I studied a bachelor's degree specializing in accounting (Bcom Accounting) at the University of Free State. Well I must say I enjoyed my days and I learned a lot during my academic journey. One thing for sure is I am planning on pursuing honors in Management Accounting (CIMA), I have found an enormous passion in that field during my degree journey. My majors were Tax(EXTN); Financial Accounting(EACC); Auditing(EACG) and Management Accounting(EMAC)/Finance (EMNF). See at UFS we also tend to understand the importance of integration between modules including business studies(EBUS) and all the Laws attached to various companies(LMER). It's one thing for one to just know how the books operate but another when having to position yourself in the field and doing the work, of which is where most of us students would appreciate some experience and why companies such as yours prefer candidates with experience. We all have to start somewhere, and I'd be honoured to take my first steps with you guys. Everyone has a story to tell and I’d like to share mine with you, just a minor paragraph long hopefully you won’t mind. To be honest I wanted to be a musician or a soccer player growing up, but you know parents being parents they would advice their children to rather consider a secure career path. So came the decision for me to fall into Accounting, I mean at first it was for them but later I’ve realized I had to do it for myself and because of their concerns for my future so here I am writing this letter to you. One thing I’d like to clear out is that, I’ve hardly been an A student as my records will tell you so, but I’ve known myself to welcome criticism and overcome tasks . To ask for help if needed, and to question if I don’t understand. In addition I will only receive my certification after I've paid the outstanding fees. Furthermore, I’d say one of the reasons I’ve chosen accounting is the dynamics of the profession in the field, and it sounds respectable. However, there is an increasing growth or change, from its historical breakthroughs till the present point there has been a metamorphic spectrum. I’m pleased to be a participant in this career path, although it has been a debate that AI is a threat from current to future potential jobs. At this point I don’t dispute plenty in that argument hence some experience will do me plenty of good, so that I can understand an essential step forward and how to remain relevant in the job market.

One of my biggest accomplishments was discovering myself as a person because there is no greater treasure the world can offer. When knowing your own strengths and weaknesses it can improve you as a person(employee), self-inspection is key to progress. I establish my own values, so as those learned at home and I understand that a home is what you make of your surroundings. If being employed by you makes me a new member of your staff, then your values too I shall carry. All my working experiences are not related to my degree but I got a sense of what it means to work with people and to be relied on to complete my duties. I was grateful to be exposed to such experiences and I've learned enough during those times.

During my spare time I've been studying; revisiting previous years work and also online courses that would be complimentary to such career paths. I've learnt and understood all the certificates attached to my CV, the importance was getting to understand the relevant knowledge required in the working environment and the practical skills that go along with them. Such as excel; QuickBooks and Xero, gaining analytical skills; paying attention to detail; shortcuts and software operations. I obligated myself to continue learning, and improving my skills as much as I possibly can. I am an introverted being, one of my highlighting times in Varsity was bonding with others in order to grow and also pave my way around the environment, to also be able to solve any predicaments I may encounter. In my home language there’s a saying “ereng motho ke motho ka batho”. In simple terms it means you can only define yourself as a human being through others. Yes, I’ve met plenty lost most, so does any company. I won’t sell you promises as to what I am going to bring to your company, but I will tell you this. I am young man from a very less fortunate background, I was brought up to work very hard for very less or even for free if necessary.

One of my reasons for not being able to pursue my honors is not having fundings, but that’s a story for another day. Make no mistake, I will go for my honors and only God knows when time fits right, but for now my priorities are gaining experience, lots of experience; build credibility and hopefully one day I’ll be able to do both working and studying or just studying. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this long letter, I’m forever optimistic hearing from you. God bless. Yours faithfully

Residence Assistant (Sports)

My duties were mainly specialising in promoting sports at the residence I resided in at that time. I was also a student leader amongst the first years, there's was a little bit of administration tasks involved. And I also got a sense of what it means to be a leader and setting an example for those looking up to me. Not much financial work was part of the package, but I had to work hand in hand with RA Finance in ensuring that the residence uses it's monetary funds efficiently for sports activities.

C&F Motor Spares

Storeman/Salesman

I tried to keep working after my academic journey when I came across C&F Motor Spares. I started off with a short- term contact at a possibility of being extended. So I was a storeman on weekdays and a salesman in weekends. My goal at C&F was to gain financial experience in the long run so they decided to firstly teach me how they operate in order to at least have a sense of how the company works in general before laying my eyes on their books. Unfortunately my contact was not extended due to educational priorities, and they needed permanent workers at that time.

SANLAM (Fiscal wealth)

Financial advisor

After my journey at C&F I wanted to look for a job that would rather let me do my studies in peace while working. So SANLAM called me for an interview as a financial advisor. Fortunately I had the job, compensation was only

commission of was not a problem for me, but my

performance was lacking because they had a requirement of servicing at least 12 clients a month. At first I thought it was possible but I couldn't keep up to get peoples signature's, Fiscal wealth was only selling funeral products. The fundamental lesson I learned during this job was knowing what is it your selling and finding various ways of pitching your products to potential clients. I was very skeptical about including this experience in my résumé but I find it fair enough to share my strengths and weaknesses
