Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician January 2001-present

MedStar Health is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that operates more than 120 entities, including ten hospitals in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area of the United States. In 2011 MedStar Health was ranked as the employer with the largest number of local employees in the region.

Performs electrocardiograms in an efficient manner, while prioritizing workload to perform EKG testing according to patient priority or needs.

Ability to work effectively in critical situations to complete procedures and assessments.

Completes test and prepares information reports for cardiologist interpretation to patient.

Provide training and education to new employees, nurses and medical staff which allows for accuracy.

Work closely with Chief Cardiologist and other cardiologists to determine critical findings upon completion of EKG’s.

Effectively perform nuclear, non-nuclear and pharmacological stress tests on patients as necessary.

Obtain all necessary EKGS on newborns to geriatric patients. Perform EKG monitoring during title table tests.

Input patient information into computer system and EKG machine along with assisting in transporting patients to and from testing areas

Download patient reports from EKG machine to Muse system for review and forward finished reports to the cardiologist for reading.

Use independent judgement during EKG process to determine normal and abnormal patterns. Analyze and report abnormalities in the EKG process to ensure swift patient care.

Effectively troubleshoot EKG machine issues in a timely manner or find other options to perform daily duties.

Part of the hospital’s Rapid Response, Code Blue and Code Stroke team. Capable of performing STAT EKG tests when necessary.

Responsible for inspecting and maintaining EKG equipment to ensure it is operating at an accurate/effective level.

The ability to maintain confidential and privileged patient information.

Effective team player who is always willing to support the goals of the department.

Capable of recognizing inefficient administrative processes within the department, while bringing matters to leadership to discuss/share solutions and change options for improvement.
