THE REVEREND GREGORY TYUS

Gregory was appointed to fulfill and unexpired school board term in December of 2007. At the January 2008 organization meeting of the Middletown City School Board he was then elected to serve as the President of the Middletown City School District, in Middletown, Ohio and served in this capacity for two years. In this position he provided the leadership for a board of five and for the district.

In November of 2009, he was elected to a full four year term on the Middletown City School Board of Education. In December of 2013, Rev. Tyus was appointed to fill in an elected term after a resignation of an electee. He is now beginning a two year term on the Middletown City Schools Board of Education.

Gregory serves as the Senior Pastor of the United Missionary Baptist Church in Middletown for the past 18, plus years. He was formerly recognized and featured as an Emerging Leader by the Applause magazine of Cincinnati, Ohio . And has also served on the Middletown City Council, completing the term for 18 months for the late Robert “Sonny” Hill; he is the Founder and Board Chairman of M.A.L.A.C.H.I. Inc. a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence for 16 years serving youth in Butler, Clermont, Darke, and Preble Counties which administers the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in all of these counties working to employ over 250 young people. Recently under the direction of Rev. Tyus, MALACHI, Inc. joined in partnership with the Community Building Institute of Miami University and together they will now take over the day to day operations of The Robert “Sonny Hill” Community Center.

He has been a resident of Middletown for over 20 years, assisting and serving on several boards and committees throughout the city. He holds a degree in Business Management for Cincinnati State College, with a minor in Accounting; and is completing his degree at Cincinnati Christian Bible College.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a veteran of the U.S. Army; Gregory is the husband of Linda L. Reese-Tyus and together they are the parents of 6 adult children and 14 grandchildren.
