Self-determination requires the kinds of complex thinking skills that this subject uniquely provides reasoning, problem solving, deliberation, reflection. Every student needs training in these vital skills to live a successful life and to be an asset to society. I also strongly believe in practical and relevant social studies content that helps students to understand the world around them right now.
