Senior Systems Engineer, Design, Test and Requirements Definition

Navy Nuclear control and instrumentation subsystems for surface and submarine application including the OHIO class replacement submarine. System design and complete requirement definition flow down and verification from contract stage through integration, qualification and final test and sell-off report.

Created system and sub-system architecture, design and interface requirements.

Defined and clarified all prime requirements. Partitioned and created derived requirements and key performance parameters. Established traceability from customer specifications down to lowest functional block.

Assigned requirements to all functional groups and capture verification evidence for final design and test report.

Created Hardware and Software design, integration and test documentation with full requirements traceability.

NORTHROP GRUMMAN, Norwalk, CT 2004 – 2012

U.S. global aerospace and defense technology leader

Systems Engineer, Architecture and Requirements Management (2008 – 2012)

Reported to the Director and Chief Systems Architect. Responsible for requirements management, definition, capture, traceability and verification of the U.S Navy Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS/Triton) unmanned aircraft radar subsystem, a 15 million dollar engineering development project with aggressive schedule, challenging budget and significant follow on potential.

Served with BAMS project team to establish the radar system architecture, key performance parameters and clearly define the top level customer requirements. Developed BAMS Requirements Management Plan.

Created Subsystem Specification and identified all prime and derived requirements establishing traceability from top level customer specifications down to the top level deliverable radar subsystem.

Using the Subsystem Specification, conducted and led meetings with systems, hardware and software "owners" to allocate primary and derived requirements for lower level subsystem functions. Creating clear and comprehensive systems mode, software and hardware requirements definitions.

DOORS database architect, creator and "super-user". Established a (first time NGC Norwalk) complete requirements flow down process and test verification method with comprehensive traceability (18,500 requirements).Facilitated clear definition leading to reduced software and hardware development time.

Defined and implemented DOORS database process including requirements test and analysis verification with evidence traceability to the verification matrix facilitating project "selloff".

Presented plans, concepts, status and demonstrations to customer top level personnel who stated that "the BAMS requirements database was impressive and gave strong credence to the BAMS project".

NORTHROP GRUMMAN, continued

Systems Engineer, Radar Mode Lead (2006 – 2008)

B1Bomber Radar Upgrade Program for NAV High Altitude Calibration mode

Required system “top down” mode design specification and software element definition with integration test plans and procedures. Replaced obsolete hardware with "off the shelf" existing avionics (signal processor, receiver exciter, displays, etc.) while creating robust design and achieving higher performance.

Presented to Management, Boeing and the Air Force for the Critical Design Review (CDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and System Requirements (SRS)

Created and wrote Mode Documentation

Mode Design Description (MDD Vol. I) defining mode design parameters.

Software Element Definition (MDD Vol. II) defining software design requirements.

Mode Test Definition (MDD Vol. III) which included Unit Test, Bench Test and Flight Testing requirements and procedures leading to performance verification.

Engineering Test Summary Report (ETSR) supporting mode performance "selloff". Test results proved the radar mode exceeded specification with new avionics.

Completed Mode performance analysis prediction, simulation and test data evaluation supporting design verification.

Systems Engineer, Systems Integration and Test (2004 - 2006)

Real Time Precision Targeting (RTPT) radar program

Created test requirements, plans and procedures improving test bench performance.

System mode integration and test enabling new hardware and software verification.

Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS)

Completed system Integration and test, ensuring operational capability and performance.

Created, presented and implemented radar performance enhancements and test proposals, leading to contracts for technical upgrades.

ASML CORPORATION, Wilton CT 1997 – 2004

Multi-national, culturally diverse world leader in advanced electro-optical systems for semiconductor development.

Principal Engineer

Responsibilities included Systems and Electrical Engineering for research, design, development, test and integration of the next generation lithography beta tool. A challenging international effort requiring precise controls, high reliability, vacuum rating, and contamination free custom design. Proof of concept phase demanded strong hands-on skills.

System design, requirements capture, modeling, analysis, partitioning, error budget allocation, software/ hardware integration, reliability prediction, and design validation. Required leading a multi-disciple and diverse technical team leading to first UV prototype Lithography tool concept.
